from the last blog while its not important to win individual awards it does show that the isles arent really respected league wide. there are still people saying they will fall off and consider carolina to have a better shot at the playoffs. I cant wait till the day this team finally is legit and gets some real respect but then what would we complain about as isles fans |

Wow reading the last thread and reading that we don't need defenseman playing defense is absurd. Defenseman certainly need to be able to play the defensive side of the game, poke checking, taking the body and eliminating the other teams player by pinning them up on the boards and also boxing them out in front to give the goalie a view etc.
That said the game has evolved and forwards aren't held up in the neutral zone so defenseman need to be quicker skaters now as the game in whole is quicker, but to say the defensive aspects of the game need not be played if a guy can skate the puck out of the zone is a myopic view of defensive play and the requirements of said players in the NHL.
I will agree the days of the Big sluggish defenseman is gone. |

not sure anyone said we didnt need d zone play but oel does that great as well. the isles biggest problem other than losing track of their man when the other team cycles is their breakout. 55 14 42 50 throw it up the boards on a hard around right to the other teams point and the forwards make weak passes or turn back into the zone ( looking at you ho sang). what happened to high off the glass just to get it out if you're trapped? these guys throw it blindly to the other team and lose possession leaving them trapped in their own zone and tired. that leads to one of three things, a high quality scoring chance, a penalty, or a goal. as far as the d goes with out obstruction or the slashes to the hands and hooks the forwards can wheel pretty freely in the zone so the forwards need to be back to help out. no matter what era guys need to poke check box out in front and play the body i think we were going for the days of pronger in front abusing you are over |

Its a much quicker game and the slower big defenseman have to make up for their slower foot speed by reading the play quicker and playing a better angle but all in all defense starts in the offensive zone by all 5 players and the structure and objective needs to be the same in all 3 zones.
I said it the other night against the caps I thought the Islanders played their best structured defensive game of the year. They need to build on that and keep it up. |

have you ever and I did it today, wandered around the grocery store and look at the women and try and figure out which ones are filthy and do the dirtiest of things? you know the spit on it while giving a bj or the ones that love in the 2 hole? they are all over but you never know which ones they are. im sure women could do that but its pretty much all of us that are dirt bags well except my one buddy his ex was complaining to a buddy and me that she loves anal but he wouldn't give it to her she even told my old lady who previously didn't believe she said that. turns out he had a bad experience with that once and I think it involved a messy bed |

People need to understand that they are called defense men for a reason. Not Offense men
