nice blog, sad to read but none the less a nice blog

2 takes

1. we are getting worse in almost every category instead of better from october to november

one would expect them to get better after adjusting to a new coach and system

now for the shocker

"2017-18: 6-15-4 (16 points)
2016-17: 9-10-6 (24 points)
2015-16: 10-12-3 (23 points)"

we have a HUGE drop off in points vs last year and we did not have Jack for those games last year

what I got most out of this blog, is it's really time to blow this thing up properly

Navin may have been on to something the other day

"SPORTSNET: Luke Fox examined “6 reasonable reactions” to Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty’s recent comments regarding his free-agent status in 2019. Doughty believes he should earn more than Nashville’s P.K. Subban ($9 million annual cap hit) on his next contract, adding he will touch base with Ottawa Senators blueliner Erik Karlsson (also eligible for UFA status in 2019) regarding contract negotiation strategy and how much he loved playing for Toronto Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock in the Olympics.

Fox cites colleague Nick Kypreos saying this is a huge distraction for the Kings and Senators, something they don’t need right now. While Kypreos said Doughty’s stance isn’t out of the ordinary it’s not something that’s mentioned in public by a player a year and a half before his UFA eligibility. He points out Doughty and Karlsson are both represented by Newport Sports Management so it’s only natural that they would exchange information. "

We did blow it properly, we lost everyone in the old regime except Foligno, we cashed in on picks and prospects, we bottomed out and picked 2nd, then again the following season and landed a player many considered generational, we also piled up picks in the first half of the first round:Girgs, Greg, Risto, Zads, Nylander...

The problem is that our reconstruction was poorly executed.

it would seem as if the pp was the main contributor to Sabres wins the last two seasons

right now I would give Kane a pen and paper

ask him what he wants on July 1st

then shake his hand, give him a bag with a million dollars in it, and a promise for another bag in July if he agrees to take a 7 month vacation and sign on July 1st

get an asset or 2 for him, and then bring him back

I don’t think anyone has really considered trading him & then signing him as a UFA in the summer

That would be ideal
I wonder if it would actually be possible though?
He’d probably have plenty of offers to choose from

It's not. This concept has never been pulled off to any degree of success. Once Kane is dealt, he'll never put on a Sabres jersey again.

And, I'm sure he'll like it in NYC or Anaheim, too. No what else he'll probably like? Playoffs. Which I'm sure he'll finally get a taste of once he's traded.

Matt Moulson says hello...unfortunately.

Cody McCormick just wouldn't go away either.

Not that I don’t believe that’s what Homie is hearing...
but how many “bad contracts” do we really have going forward?

Moulson & Pommer are done after next year
Bogosian is done the following year

Only Okposo’s seems to loom for a length of time
Some would say O’Reilly as well, but even if he is overpaid, he’s still a good player

With the Cap going up pretty significantly,
I don’t really see signing Kane as an issue

Unless there’s multiple other big $$$ players he’s trying to make room for?

Always fun to talk about blowing things up, but what this teams needs is develop a couple top 9 forwards and top 4 D drafted outside the top 10. McCabe is the only one on the roster, and he hasn't looked like a top 4 this year. Not going to include Pomminville because of age. Guhle looks like he'll jump into the list. Will a current forward? So far they've squandered every opportunity, to the point where we get Seth Griffith and Jordan Nolan in spots that were there for the taking.

senators are gonna let karlsson walk i bet

i just don't see how an already good team can fit a 12m cap hit in though

unless like the lebron NBA free agency, teams are preparing for it already and makign sure they have tons of cap space available

No, it's happened. Moulson and McCormick are proof of that. But, it's a conspiracy concept that's just not based in reality. No team has really ever traded away their UFA for a bag of riches and then had that player return on July 1 to a good contract and he and the GM share a good laugh over the heist they just pulled.

Kane is not from here, he might like it here, but that means little. He likes Buffalo about as much as I'm sure he likes Edmonton or Carolina, his loyalty is not set in stone. Once he's gone , he's gone.
