This is absolutely a terrific signing. McNabb is a way above average bottom-pairing dman and decent #4 guy when paired with the right #3.

Not really thrilled about the signing. But not surprised either. He seems like a Gallant type of player.

I don't think he's top 4 guy on a good team. 5 or 6 maybe with a better puck mover alongside him playing.

Players that matter most like, Karlsson, Marchessault, Smith, Tuch, Miller, that will be more exciting news.

Smith is signed until 2022; Tuch 2019. Marchessault is most interesting because he's the lone UFA of this bunch. What they do with him will be very telling.

If you're doubting McNabb's worth, see the shots allowed heat maps with and without him:

That is worth a 4-year, $2.5M-per extension, IMO.

Along the same lines of him on and off the ice, see LA's shots allowed last year (with McNabb) and this year (without McNabb):

Obviously, there's a whole lot more going on with LA than just the subtraction of McNabb--namely a new coach with a system that encourages more offense--but it's hard to argue, after looking at both sets of visualizations, that LA couldn't really use a defensive defenseman like McNabb right now.

McNabb was underappreciated and discarded by LA, and that was their loss. I'm happy that he's found a home where he and his game are more appreciated.

While I think the Kings made the right choice picking Forbort over McNabb, they could definitely use Nabber over Fantenberg, Folin, MacDermid, etc..

I like McNabb, always have. Just think that his skating limits him too much. Like I said, he would've been great in the trap era. Right now, his potential is pretty much Matt Greene, which isn't bad at all.
