Sheng Peng: Are Golden Knights for Real?
These are striking stats which caught my eye at quarter-season mark: The playoffs are legitimate possibility, as Marchessault has been absolute star, Smith has been MVP, Karlsson & Schmidt are carrying more responsibility well. Carrier, Hunt & Miller have also been pleasant surprises + Fleury might return yet to save the day. |

Probably, but the team isn't bad at all. They've banked points and have a legit shot. I still say it won't happen, but it's a serious conversation now.

Some constructive criticism:
You need to make these blogs shorter, Sheng. I frequently find myself skipping half of your articles because it is around a 10-15 minute read with a lot of repetitive information. Typically most hockey blogs I read are around the 5 minute mark with solid information and an explaination rather a lot of extraneous information paired with a very detailed explanation.
Just some thought going forward. I recommend shorter blogs and try to minimize the amount of trivial information and extensive explanations. Other than that I do enjoy your blogs of breaking down the plays with the videos as an outline. |

Although I am surprised by the Knights start, it's no secret that they've played a very favorable schedule. However I think we can all agree that the new expansion draft format has really benefited Vegas and they do have more talent than expansion teams of the past. George McPhee did a real nice job stockpiling futures at the draft, taking advantage of the ability to pluck a good player off almost every roster, and parlaying that into some nice young prospects. It would honestly be much better in the next 2-3 years that Vegas not make the postseason and continue to build with the young players. Glass is gonna be a real nice player. I think the real gold might be in loading up the player pool with young talent by continuing to use the quality veterans they have to grab more picks. I still would be a little surprised if they can get into the playoffs in year 1 but I think they're better off long term being competitive but snagging a few more lottery picks. |

I agree, and I believe that's what McPhee wants to do. But at the moment, his team is not cooperating haha.

Thanks for trying to read! I appreciate the criticism. Ideally, I would've split this piece in two, but I finished it a little later than desired and wanted it out before the Dallas game.

They are fun to watch, and their level of work for 200 feet is a big factor in their early success, your GM is going to have a major dilemma if they keep this up though, unless he pulls off some crazy sign and trades before the draft. Either way I will watch them when I can. |

No they definitely are not. The Panthers were very good very fast in the mid 90’s and that stunted their growth long term. Expansion teams need those high draft picks to build a team because they are long term fits with inexpensive contracts. |

disagree regarding blog length. Give me a well researched and explained in depth article over a two paragraph game summary 10/10 times. Kept me entertained, even if I am only scouting a division rival! |

That's the rub, right? Marchessault at the deadline might be worth a 1st. Marchessault's rights before the draft? A lot less.

Great example.
