personally I am relieved to not face Turris anymore, absolute Ranger killer |

Out of the 3 losses, last night was the most disturbing. No one came to play. Credit to the Rangers for turning it on then playing good defence.
While a prolonged break with Sweden isn’t ideal, their game can’t fall that far as a result. The coaching is even out of whack. The PP units make no sense half the time and it shows with players not having any idea who is on the ice, therefore, not knowing what they should do.
As for the Ryan rant, I felt Ryan was ok at the start of the year. He seemed to be skating well and had 6 points in 8 games before getting hurt. He’s only had 3 games back after a month and has played with a brand new teammate. To think he was going to go back to Anaheim/playoff form right away is wishful thinking. With that said, he looked lost or drunk last night. It was pretty hard to watch.
No time to panic. I don’t think little slumps are a bad thing. Gets players and coaches to get back to the drawing board and work on things you might let slide if you are winning. Might help in the long run. Another loss or two you might have a different story though.

maybe a chabot or white would bring a different dynamic to the team. There still ok where they sit but its starting to teeter. I do have a fix but many people would not agree but the return would be awesome and complete the team more then any one player |

i thought that was funny so i will let you know what my haphazard idea is.
#65 should be traded
now i do not say that lightly,he is elite, regarded as a top 5 player in the world. And i believe he likes playing in Ottawa.
The reasons being in this day and age players should only be regarded as assets .Yes that is cold.Buy low sell high is optimum for any business model. The upcoming cap hit with 65 will cripple this team for a long time .As long as Eugene and his budget own the team. I also believe the return of 2 high end pieces will complete the team overall and better then retaining one elite . The upcoming defense and what we have are a very capable group. Also there is no guarantee he will resign. Now this isn't a great selling point to potential suitors but i am very worried of his ankle and achillies
Feel free to shred my idea it probably deserves it |

I thought this wuuld be the plan when i saw your post.
Valid opinion.
If they do though it should probably be for a full on rebuild though. regardless of who they got back it would leave too big a gap on defense. It would speed any such plan along.

Duchene: 5GP - 0G - 0A - 0P - minus 6
Turris: 4GP - 1G - 2A - 3P - plus 2
Good thing you didn’t trade a 1st round pick and last year’s 28th OA pick, too. |

The team that gets the best player usually wins any trade. That being the case, it's hard to swallow moving Karlsson. The cap hit argument is appropriate, but it's hard to conceive a deal where Ottawa wouldn't take a step back. This deal also does not fix anything right now as you'd be a bit silly to trade him this point in the season/contract.
However, there are arguments to support your theory/idea:
- Karlsson has had multiple surgeries on his ankles.
- The Hawks are a good example of a team going all in on a couple of contracts and now struggling to maintain elite status due to the cap.
- On paper, his prime years will end in a couple of years.
- If Chabot is the real deal, you may have an easy replacement plus get some decent pieces
Personally, I give Karlsson a blank cheque and work around that by not signing 3rd and 4th liners and 5/6 pairing d-men pricey/small contracts that add up. |

He's looked great play wise so far, points haven't been there but they will come.
I think he showed a bunch of signs of chemistry with Hoffman and some with Ryan but the lines have been moved around and they are trying new combos and seeing what sticks. |

Erik Karlsson is a bona fide NHL "superstar" talent... he's the team's captain, best player, and established face of the franchise. He wins awards, sells jerseys, and puts people in the seats both at home and on the road. The only reason a Karlsson trade should happen in his 20's is if he makes it clear that he wants to play elsewhere. Otherwise, as the Senators GM you just write the cheque and then worry about what you have to do to manage that contract.
I'm also not entirely convinced that it will that difficult to manage a new contract for Karlsson... nearly $6M/yr will be freed up by Burrows/Dzingel/Thompson moving on as UFA, Brassard could represent another $5M/yr, and they could also buyout Phaneuf at a relatively "reasonable" rate of $2M/yr at that point. That's up to $16M/yr of additional cap space available in the 2019 off-season to support new deals for Karlsson, Duchene, and the younger talent that they want to build around going forward (eg. Chabot, White, Brown).
The real question is whether Karlsson actually wants to stay. |

Don't disagree. They are in a bind now. Haven't won since Kane and Toews got massive contracts I believe. Was merely playing devils advocate in the post. Personally, I'd trade a few cup winning years for some tough years. But some rather the wheel of perpetual mediocrity. |

Ryan has been playing pretty decent. Besides bobbling the puck at inopportune times, he's hardly an issue. He just had a hand injury and been out a month or so, it's expected for him to take a few game to get back into it, and of course he may not handle the puck great at first after having an injury to his hand.
After the Rangers loss, I was pretty concerned but even though they were pretty consistent last year, this team has still had a tendency to be a streaky team. I think they will be fine. Takes a little while for Duchene to adjust, non concern there, he's still a major upgrade over Turris. He's so much harder on the puck, and has better skill in pretty much every area. Can't believe there's still people who think it's close...
With Chabot coming up, I'd expect their power play to improve. He's got a lot of poise on the point and can run a power play. I'd be surprised if he goes back down to be honest, he's here to stay.
And trading Karlsson? Idiodic suggestion...

Karlsson isn't going anywhere. Karlsson is more than just an elite player you can trade for two high-end pieces and all will be good. Karlsson is the face of the franchise and without him Ottawa would lose the little media hype that it gets now. Eugene, for all that's said about him, is a smart businessman. He wouldn't be in the position of owning a team if he wasn't. He will pay Karlsson his value and Ottawa and Dorion will do whatever they can to win a Cup with Karlsson in the lineup. |

Huh. Seems unlikely, but one can hope. There has been way less ownership drama this year than in the past, maybe there is a reason for that? |

I haven't heard anything about that at all. I know EM has gotten offers to sell off part of the team and he wouldn't do that, so I'm not sure he would sell the team.
I don't actually mind him as owner, it's interesting to hear his views of things (sometimes laughable), and he has all the money in the world to do it. Where I have a problem is not spending to the cap and getting the team in a position to win a cup.
I wouldn't mind them being sold as long as they aren't moved. |

I've never heard such a comment! This deserves to be discarded. Karlsson is not only the best player on the team by a large margin but is also the captain of this team. You don't trade a captain unless its for a rebuild or because he asked to be traded. The concept in itself is just simply ridiculous and the practicality makes this arguable the dumbest sport comment I've ever read.
