That's how you successfully get out of a bad contract. Didn't even have to send him to Robidas Island.

I don't know, if it were me I would've went to the AHL and collected my millions.

This was a really interesting saga. I doubt we will ever know what really went on with Ship, but seems like an amicable end for everyone so that's good.

I don't know anything about Ship, but if the guy is a star in the Khl & not a young guy, he has a reputation & image. I understand if he was told he was playing in the NHL & told go back to the Ahl there'd be an issue. McPhee says he didn't want to play in nth America? Probably had the impression the next NHL team would send him back to the A as well.

Can't blame him for wanting to get the (frank) outta dodge.

Also, how can an organisation just retire a new player & it's all sweet? No cap recapture??

Normally side with organization on these kinds of things, but I'm hesitant on this one.

While we don't know what happens behind closed doors, I thought McPhee's words over the course of this drama spoke volumes about the situation. It's like...the saga's over, man. Why dog the guy more by saying he couldn't play the North American game, was the worst player on the team, didn't practice well and so forth? That seemed so childish and unprofessional to me.

Not to mention, I don't buy that excuse. This dude is a proven KHL standout at 30-years-old. He's not some 18-year-old jabroni. You're telling me he can't play in the NHL? I'm sure if he was given a chance, he would have "figured it out," at this level--even though I'm sure there was nothing to really figure out.

Whatever happened, happened...but I think how the front office handled it was poor form.
