Gudbranson and Kulikov’s departure was basically addition by subtraction. The roster was together, but decimated with injuries and Rowe’s poor coaching ability. Now Tallon has torn it apart, made bad trades, and generally done everything in his power to trigger another rebuild.

@rexypoo Triggering a rebuild? More like getting back to where they were before owners and Rowe&Co derailed this team last season. Dan hit the nail on the head with what was lost when they traded Guddy. Addition by subtraction? The Panthers were pushed around and outmuscled all last season. The defense was soft and sucked last year and still misses that guy who will actually put someone on their ass when necessary. What Gudbranson added to this team in leadership and inspiring confidence in his teammates can't really be measured by any statistic.
This summer trades/expansion draft are questionable in the short term, but time will tell if they were good moves or not. Smith fell off last year and raised doubts to if he'll be worth 5yrs @ $5mil per, with a NTC, for a guy who is one year on/one year off. Marchy is going to want a lot of money this offseason after scoring 30 last year, a total he most likely doesn't reach without Huberdeau, Barkov and even Bjugstad missing so many games with injuries. And scoring goals is not the problem so far this year, anyway.
Tippett, Borgstrom, Mascherin are coming soon to add to the core that's already here.

That was a bad call by the refs!! obviously that was a penalty on the Islanders since Luongo didnt cover the puck

Maybe letting two of your best scorers go for basically nothing hurt a lot more than losing an overhyped defenseman who looks like poop in Vancouver too?

Obviously he doesn't remember how many missed calls went the other way. Guess he doesn't watch too much playoff hockey that's the way it is league wide. Refs put their whistles away and did so for infractions against the Panthers as well. Spiegel has less playoff experience than the Panthers

^^^^ Nailed it. Gudbranson sucks and so did Kulikov. Firing Gallant when there was a ton of injuries was a terrible move. Letting go of offensive players for nothing is insane

Scoring goals is not the problem this year, they can't keep it out of their own net.

Easier to keep the puck out of your net when you have it more than the other guys do. Seems to be a problem for your team.

Not sure having a guy who gets caved in every shift helps that much.

Having many D-men who do nothing but try to poke check, and very often don't even cover the front of their own net doesn't help much, either. They miss that guy who will actually play the body, and make it harder for opposing forwards to hang around the net.

This ownership's incompetence is pretty much legendary at this point. Who has ever taken their team at the point where the Panthers were and turned it into something so far away from that in basically one offseason?
And the biggest stupidity is, why????? Incompetence this bad would have bad enough if they were beginning a rebuild, but this team was in a spot most other teams in the league would love to be in, young, one of the best teams in the league. Ownership decides to go in a different direction because........? What kind of idiot sees what was going on with the Panthers in 2015-2016 and say, "yeah, this needs to change"?

Awful awful awful awful.

I believe those whom support Tallon look through rose colored glasses. In Chicago and in Florida there is not this dicotomy where he has done far more good than bad. It is fair to say Tallon has many good AND bad report cards.

Tallon has an eye for talent. But he has a track record of terrible first round choices save the obvious K a ne and Toews. In Florida I think he has fared better; I need to study his choices before I categorically say he has done better with drafts since leaving Chicago.

Anyway, a keen 6th grader could build a good roster after he was allowed to gut it. He spent like he had all the Monopoly Board Game money. Ok, but reset and see how he does. But do not pretend he was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Also many in media like the affable Tallon He is a sociable hip and fun guy who treats media well. But that dies not mean he is a great GM.

Should title this column "How the loss of a third line defenseman sunk a franchise". You must be kidding. I'm sick of rehashing the shyt officiating. Get off it already, man. I hope you showered immediately after writing this crap. Winners don't keep rehashing how you got f'd, they start f'ing someone else. Loser mentality.

Arizona's record sucks hence the Demers trade was a good one is not really a strong rationale

There's also the attendance...or lack thereof as well. I don't pay enough attention to the statistics of what they list for there attendance at home games but when I'm surfing through channels and see the barrage of empty seats it looks terrible. The league can fluff all the attendance numbers they want...it's blatantly clear while watching on TV that there's not a whole lot of fan interest there. I imagine for an NHL player that the games are tough to gear up any emotion for in a near empty arena.

Good christ the Panthers are horrible.

I don't know what happened, but wow.

Vincent Trochek is great.

Sasha Barkov is great.

The entire rest of the team looked like it might as well not even be on the ice.

Here we go with the Toronto elitist mentality. There's plenty of interest. Fans are tired of a crap product forever. What would you like a non traditional fan base to do when your team makes the playoffs 6 times in 23 seasons? There may be 4 or 5 teams that will sell if the team sucks year in and year out..and actually, I'll call those people "suckers"....Ownership bares ALL responsibility here, not the fan base, which by the way NEVER finishes last in attendance.
