Really? This is what you blog with? A "flimsy" offside call? Let me point this out, GARTH...THEY ARE BEING OUTSHOT 55 to 10 at the end of 2 periods. They gave up another shorthanded goal, believe that's 6 in 8 games. PLEASE stop cheerleading, this team is HORRIBLE!!!! This organization is HORRIBLE. I read one comment that was spot on last week. Phyllis was soft when he played, Pomminville was is a cupcake. It's OBVIOUS that Laviolette was the heavy in Nashville because the ONLY way any future Sabres team will win is with a strict disciplinarian coach. 8 games in and I'm unplugging on these LOSERS, they SUCK. Face Facts and STOP CHEERLEADING. |

Eichel can't do it all.
He's sure trying though. |

fwiw, I think it was onside.
but they blew about 3 tripping calls on Eichel, rather blatant trips, too. |

So, an entire blog without an actual replay of the offside, just a replay of the goal and a gif of Housley being butthvrt

They were horrendous tonight. Sloppy. Lazy. Can't pass.
The non-call on the offsides was the least of their worries. They had no business being in that game on the scoreboard.
I can't believe I continue to spend money on this team. The atmosphere in the arena is dead. Fans are becoming more and more disconnected as the years go by. |

Has the year been decided when the Sabres aren't tanking Garf? |
|
|
|
I feel bad for Sabres fans. Pegula is a rich man but erred when he hired a rookie GM. The club erred when they blatantly tanked, The team culture has been has never recovered. The rookie GM proceed to go on a trading spree, trading young talent and picks for players supposedly in their "prime". The rookie GM then hired an experience, Cup winning coach. It all went bad again last year. The coach was blamed for the result and the rookie GM was also fired.
Naturally, Pegula then hires another rookie GM and also a rookie coach.
No matter how well the rookie preacher man reads from his pulpit, his congregation is simply not talented or deep enough to compete in the NHL
No amount of blaming the refs will change anything |

For the record, I believe it was offside. However, an entire article on the one call and no mention how pathetic they looked on home home ice against a below average canuck team. The call happened in the middle of the 2nd. They still had over 30 minutes to do something and couldn't do anything. The PP has let in more SHG then goals they have scored. They 2nd last in GA and 3rd last in goal differential. The team is simply not good, and I don't think the coach is helping them. They simply don't have the right players to play Phil's system. |

Last night was the first Sabres game I watched this year. And if that game was indicative of their play all season then...yup...you're bang on. They stink. |

There are times when horrible refereeing really screws over some team.
By the sounds of it, this wasn't one of those times.

There was one where he fell at the blue line and fans were yelling. But it was his own team mates stick that actually tripped him. So yeah. |

I don't get it. I watched a lot of Minnesota games last year, and Scandella isn't even close to playing the way he did last year. He was physical, but not to the point of taking himself out of plays just to make a hit. He was one of the most accurate passers on a team loaded with talented dmen. Almost all of his passes out of the zone were hard and to the tape. This year, not so much.
This seems to happen to a lot of players that come to Buffalo. Not just the passing, but almost everything else too.
This could be because he's adjusting to a new team, d-partner, and other variables. But this seems to happen too often.
He isn't playing with the same passion either. Like I said, it could be because of the different situations that comes with being on a new team, but he hasn't even looked like the same player to this point.
I'm certainly not directing any blame towards him. The teams poor start is definitely not his fault. Even though he hasn't played as well as he did in the past, he's still probably been our best dman -- which in itself is extremely pathetic... |

Remember when Garth kept supporting TIm Murray?
Remember all the times he bragged about the elite core Buffalo had?
Well Buffalo has been rebuilding how many years now, and shown how much progress? Zero to be exact. It's strange how an organization can draft Eichel, Risto, Reinhart.. sign OReilly, acquire Kane, Scandella.... and still be a complete bottom feeder.
Lots of teams seem to be able to turn it around in 3 years (hello Toronto)... so it must sting so bad for Garth.
Toronto started its rebuild after Buffalo, and it's like night and day.
The only redeeming quality about Garth is at least he's a Hip fan. Surprised he hasn't done a signigcant blog about that considering all the grief Sabres bring. |

No...just no...Toronto was awful for a decade. Just because they brought in new management 3 years ago doesn't mean that was when they started the rebuild. They have Kadri, Rielly, JVR, Nylander, Marner, Mathews all top 10 draft picks not to mention the 2nd overall they traded away for Kessel. This bs that they turned it in 3 years is the biggest horseshyt ever.

You have to be careful with a lot of defensemen. Especially when they are coming from a team like the wild hat play a very good defensive system. A lot of times it makes average defensemen look good. Perhaps he was taking himself out of the play, you just didn't notice because there was always someone to back him up. The same for passing. It is easier to make accurate passes when the guys without the puck are making themselves available for the pass. Scandella may very well be a product of the wilds system, and may not fit in well with Housley's system. This falls on the GM to identify who fits into his teams system and who doesn't. I've only watched about half of the sabres games, but from what I have seen, they don't have the right defensemen to play Housley's system. Maybe some of them learn, but I don't think it will happen. They will either have to address the defense or get Housley to adapt his system to the players he has.

The Leafs made the playoffs in the shortened season, they weren't in a rebuild mode then.
IMO this true rebuild started with the hiring of Shanahan and Lou Lams. They weren't in rebuild mode before then, they just sucked.
JVR was not a Leafs draft pick. They don't have any of their first rounders from 2010-2013 in their lineup. |
