Todd Cordell: New Jersey Devils sign Jimmy Hayes

Not the end of the world. Tradeable if he ever gets to that point.

A big bodied right wing on the cheap who might be able to provide some secondary scoring. What's not to like? Jagr would have been more interesting, but after Stempniak and PAP, I'll trust Ray. He's also 27 vs 45 and probably much cheaper.

Also, after the disaster of a first game, Jimmy earned it. He played well. We can trade him to the Rags. They love feel good stories.

Tough decision Bratt had a great preseason and deserves at least a 9 game NHL look, Blandisi also played very well looks like he took a step forward this offseason and Santini must stay IMO Prout had a great camp but if we waive him he won't be claimed and we would be able to bring him up after Bratt gets sent back well if he gets sent back to juniors I'm hoping he contributes and stays 👍 Finally the devils have some good problems

Jimmy might be a pleasant surprise for you guys. Pressure of playing for his hometown 100% got to him. I'll be interested in seeing how he performs with zero expectations

I love Miles Wood but of the borderline forwards I think he's stood out the least this preseason.

I think Prout will be the odd man out on D. He's been good, but not convinced he's any better than Santini or Butcher (two who don't need waivers to go to the AHL), and the Devils are much more invested in Santini and Butcher.

Q, Bratt, Blandisi, and Santini and Butcher are waiver exempt; but I'm doubtful they'll keep 8 defenders. In the old days Lou would have put Boyle on IR retroactively but IDK what these guys are going to do.

Toronto put Kerby Rychel on waivers with intent of sending him to the marlies... does that mean he can be claimed ? and is that interesting ? lol He was a guy a few people in here wanted in 2013, might have even called him the perfect devil if I recall correctly ( I mean I think we said the same about Shinkaruk to lol )
