Lazar doesn't deserve to be on the team. DJanko unchained should be on for sure.
Bennett has looked like a damn stud. |

Man did Bennett & Gaudreau ever look pretty good playing together last night. On his 2nd goal an Arizona D took a shot at Gaudreau's head & Benny went right after him. Loved it. Smith looked retry good too. I gotta say, he sure is a big goalie & even on his knees the guy covers the net. A few wandering adventures that I know we'll have some face planing moments this year but he sure is involved with the puck on shoot ins. When the D get in tune with him, that is going to be a good thing.
Lazar, Shinkaruk, even Hathaway really weren't noticeable last night. I liked Glass's game & Klimchuk I thought looked better than the above 3 as well. I also thought Wotherspoon looked pretty damn solid & he and Anderson worked well together. I really liked Brodie & Hamonic together as well. |

I've seen preseason Bennett vs regular season Bennett before
Show me this on a regular basis when it counts and I'll be impressed |

Give CL some time, he's got the skill and the work ethic. He just needs a bit of confidence and chemistry and he'll be a solid NHL player |

The problem is there are only so many roster spots and he is being outplayed by other prospects ...why give him time when he isn't earning it |

MGMT said he was a long-term project so I wouldn't be surprised if he spends the most part/all of this season in the AHL to get some confidence in a top 6 role.
The emergence of Janko and hard-work of someone like Lomberg/Hathaway is probably gonna solidify that bottom 6...

Even more reason to hate the brouwer signing... rather have lazar there on the 4th |

I can't help but wonder if the Flames are having second thoughts about their trade for Curtis Lazar. All summer we heard about how hard he was training and how he'd show up in camp a new player. To this point, that doesn't look to be the case.
He has no points and two shots in more than 40 minutes of ice, he's not driving play, and he struggled in the dot when given the chance at center. On a per game basis, Lazar ranks 13th among Flames forwards in average ice per game this preseason.
Best case, it's looking like he'll play on their 4th line and there's no guarantee the impact he makes is a positive one. That doesn't seem worth a 2nd round pick.
That's Lazar for you. Sens saw the same thing from him. All the heart and work ethic in the world, but just didn't have the tools to translate into success in the NHL.
Maybe the Sens brought him in too early (I think they did), or maybe that's all he was ever slated to be. |

The second round pick you gave up will likely secure him a spot, management wont want to look foolish.
Same thing happened in Ottawa, since he was such a highly touted first rounder.
Sweet news about Bennet though. |

Janko is really starting to make Feaster look like a genius. There are tons of people who hated that pick, but now we're seeing why he was picked where he was. Our scouting staff deserve a lot of credit on this one. I'll be amazed if he doesn't make the line up.
I agree Lazar hasn't been noticeable so far this preseason (especially since players like Tanner Glass have actually been pretty good), but I'm not ready to completely write the kid off just yet. Once he gets a bit of confidence he could be good for us. If that means having him start the year in Stockton to gain it, fine. Management said Lazar was a long-term acqusition when we traded for him. He's a project that might take a bit of time, and the trade was (and still is) pretty low risk. If he doesn't work out, he doesn't work out, but if he does and starts playing up to his potential then management looks like geniuses. We'll have to wait and see.
As for Bennett, good to see him perform in the preseason, but we haven't seen regular season Bennett play yet. I think he's due for a breakout this year, but like someone else said I've seen this before. I'm remaining cautiously optimistic for now. |

1) Bennett has certainly looked good. Him and Johnny seem to have some chemistry, and i think Johnny could benefit from having a guy with an attitude on the ice with him. I'm a little on the fence though, because neither of them are finishers quite like Monahan. Johnny has the ability, but has a pass first mentality. I'm not sure who on the team would fit best with Sam. He needs someone who can finish. I think Tkachuk Bennett versteeg could be dangerous. Versteeg has pretty good hands, and they all play a hard nose style of game. Worth a shot anyway.
2) Lazar needs a bit more time, but if he doesn't show an improvement by Xmas get rid of him. We can argue all day long about his development, but if he doesn't show us something soon, than this is what he is.
3) Really like how Fat Rass is coming along. He should be kept in the A so he can play big minutes. Should be the first call up if someone gets injured though. He'll be a top 4D one day. |

Genius??? Holy (frank) man. He was drafted 4 years ago and is yet to make the NHL. He may become a bottom 6 player but that is a far cry from a genius pick for a first rounder. |

Janlowski is a finisher. Playing with Bennett and Versteeg he would fill the net. |

He also played 3 years of college hockey during that time, and has only had one year actually pro, in which he had great advanced stats if you care about that.. I know up in Edmonton they don't know anything about patience with prospects, but him taking 4 years to reach the NHL isn't a bad thing if it's developed him like he is now. Developing the kid right is more important than him getting into the League as soon as possible. I'd much rather have Janko 4 years later and actually be effective than rushed into the NHL before he's ready. |

Also...roster has been trimmed
The Calgary Flames announced today that they have assigned seven players to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Stockton Heat: Austin Carroll (RW), Josh Healey (LD), Oliver Kylington (LD), Andrew Mangiapane (LW), Adam Ollas Mattsson (LD), Tyler Parsons (G) and Colby Robak (LD).
Looks like Gillies and Rittich will continue to get looks
Thought Mangiapane would get into a couple more pre-season games
