If the Pens trade for Sheahan, and I hope they don't, it's not the worst move they could make and doesn't prevent them from making further moves as the season moves on.

My hope, and this is an unrealistic one, is that they somehow get DET to retain some salary.

I would still prefer the Pens wait out a trade for someone better and start the season rotating some of the young guys around against real competition.

You don't want to see a HERO chart for Sheahan it will make you very upset and those things are BS. Trading Pouliot for Sheahan will go down in history as an overwhelming red wing win. I live 40 minutes from little Cesar's arena and I have a life long hatred for the wings and "hockey town."

Yeah Bonino looked great in the HBK line two seasons ago but honestly, I never thought he looked good in a 2C role when needed. Ever. That HBK line was getting very favourable match ups a lot of nights.

I really dont think there's a big drop off from Bonino to Sheahan, if any at all. The unknown here is how Sheahan would fit into the Pens system but obviously the brass and maybe even HCMS think he will. Could bust, could blossom. He's only 25 so its not like teaching a new dog tricks and he still isn't quite at prime yet.

It probably wont cost much to acquire him, his cap hit is only a smidgen over 2 mill per, he's signed one more year and if he works out he's a RFA when next year is over.

Do it GMJR. Do it.

When you look at his chart (especially before last year) you see that in less ice time his goal and assist production was almost as much as Bonino but his shot suppression was better.

Or at least that's how I interpreted it a few weeks ago when I looked.....going to look again now..

His primary points/hour last year sucked, he also played on a poopty team, with poopty linemates, and had one of the most unlucky seasons in NHL history with his shooting percentage. His shot metrics were on par with Bones. If you compare his year before that to Bones...

Pretty much on par with Bones. I think that would be the Sheahan the Pens see, not last seasons version.

Last season was a fluke for Sheahan. He's a strong player. I do think Detroit wins a Pouliot for Sheahan trade, though.

Yeah man, thats what I'm saying. At only 25 years old Im willing to omit last season. The Wings overall werent very good. Get him in under Sullivan, who seemingly has the ability to milk every ounce out of his players, and he could be real good for the Pens.

I like the idea of acquiring him for cheap now, and trying to get a stronger 3C in season too, if/when the open market starts to show. Never know what teams think they're on the verge of success.

If Pouliot develops more, maybe, but thats an if...Sheahan has contributed much more at theNHL level and is still relatively young as well. Also, Pouliot would be the Pens 7th or 8th defenseman and is signed to a one way contract. Sheahan would come and slot right into 3C. If its just a straight up Sheahan for Pouliot trade, I think Pens get the upper hand...at least this season. Never know, a change of scenery could get Pouliot going but the other side of that is he could potentially be playing for a losing team...that probably wont help with confidence which I believe to be a big issue with that kid.

I think if Pouliot was able to just play, even on a 3rd pair, he'd be fine. Getting consistent minutes in the NHL would be the best thing for his development. Yoyo'ing him from the press box to some games depending on injury would be awful. Whether it be on the Pens or another team, if he just got steady minutes, I bet we'd see improvement in his game.

I think so too. The times he was up with the big club I wanted them to just keep playing him regardless, let him iron the kinks out with 3rd pairing sheltered time.. I liked what I saw at times from him.

Thats the biggest risk of this trade...is that Pouliot could still become something. He's only 23 and has the raw skill set. A lot of defensemen dont come into their own until mid 20's. I always said I'd give him to 25.

I dont know the Wings D depth chart that well, especially the younger guys and prospects, but would he crack the 6 there?...or would he be in the box alot of nights?

EDIT: I see at least 6 D ahead him from this... http://nhlnumbers.com/teams/DET?year=2018

How times have changed in such a short time! JR wouldn't budge moving Pouliot for Kessel apparently, now if the rumour is true, Pouliot is out the door for a suspect 3C.

Shelter him the same way they sheltered Schultz his first season and just play him.

Yeah, the Leafs were slammed for accepting Kapanen in that deal instead of Pouliot. There's no way in hell Kapanen would ever be traded for Riley Sheahan, that's for sure...

Sheahan is a legit 3C and DP has failed to develop further since the Kessel trade not that its necessarily his fault.

problem with sheehan as a 3c now is it eats up cap space to acquire a good 3c later.

Sheehan might be a legit 3c as in one of the top 90 centers in the NHL, but he's not a good 3c like bonino (45-70 in center rankings). Having a good 3c really helps with matchups.

You are significantly overrating Bonino here.

I heard that Slash tore the Edmonton show apart! Friends were saying it was a great Show! I still think Appetite is the best Rock album of my time.
