Logan Stanley was nothing short of brutal. The only one positive I could find was he was able to block a few shots. He can't always rely on his reach and needs to keep those feet moving. Won't be long before he gets sent down.
Even worse than Stanley was Nelson Nogier. Send him down now ! Two penalties and umpteen mistakes. He is nowhere near NHL caliber yet. Lets see Sami Niku in the next game....please !
Poolman looked good out there. A couple of small mistakes but overall pretty solid. His play though wasn't as good as Chariots, who played pretty well and delivered some nice hits . Poolman is close but Chariot may be the 7th D-man for this year.
Dano stunk. I've never been a fan anyways. A few more games like that and we will finally see all the Dano fans on this board eat crow.
Perreault may have been the best Jet on the ice. Ehlers looked good as well. Connor looked great when he got to play away from Lowry and Armia. Maurice please wake up and put him with Little and Ehlers...please ! Our top line dominated but then again they should against a lot of rookies. The power play still needs a lot of work.
Finally Laine. He looks like he is in great shape, has a little more speed now as well. Shot obviously is just going to get better and better with his strength. His only flaw was he seemed to be fighting the puck a lot on the left side. Time will tell as it could just be rust. Clicks better with Ehlers.
Looking forward to seeing Roslovic , Niku ,and even Hendricks and see what they can bring to the table. |

Why the hell is Connor playing with plugs and under 10 min in the first preseason game?
Maurice.... NOT the man the Jets need to take that next step.... |

Who in the top six does Connor replace? Otherwise he plays with "plugs".
He had under 10 minutes due to the amount of time the Jets spent killing penalties. Maurice eventually started using him on the PK to get him more ice time. |

This is preseason, it's time to make experiments and see what your players have in the tank.
If Connor is destined to play on the third line and not on the powerplay, might as well use his speed on the PK! Didn't have to wait out 40 minutes to figure that out.
As for your question, I'd put him with Little and Wheeler and watch him score plenty for the Jets. Put Perreault on the third. |

Conner hasn't earned top 6 minutes yet, at least certainly not in the regular season. 5 points in 20 NHL games doesn't tell me that he should be kicking any of Wheeler, Ehlers, Laine, or perrault out of the top winger positions. As for "plugs", I feel strongly that there is still talent on the third line Armia, Lowry, or any of the other halft dozen First rounders eager to make the roster. But absolutely experiment with lineups. That is what the preseason is all about. |

Peter Tessier: 3-2 Loss with Vet Roster Means Questions
Jets lose 3-2 in a SO while using a veteran heavy line up in first preseason game. - Peter.Tessier
What exactly was the point of this blog?
That the Jets don't have their special teams in order after 4 practices and the fact that they only looked at special teams the day before? Huge surprise there.
Maybe you could save this and post it after the 6th preseason game...it may make more sense then.
On another note Stanley is big, clumsy and lacks puck confidence. I though he skated better than when I saw him at the Memorial Cup but still nowhere near NHL skilled. Maybe he will grow into his body but I have my doubts. |

It was a pre-season game. A chance for the vets to get their timing down and a chance for the prospects to show something. Not overly concerned yet about Chiarot being out of position on Coyle's goal. Not overly concerned that 3 of the NHL's top scorers made an AHL goalie look like Patrick Roy. Not overly concerned that a 37 year old washed up player scored in the shootout.

Petan can't play centre in the NHL, so it's not really that simple. |

No it isn't.
Connor has done nothing to prove he belongs in the top 6. Nothing.
If he makes the team, and at this point it's still an If (although highly probable) he'll likely get his feet wet getting up to speed in a more protected environment like the third (and even fourth) line.
By mid December if his play dictates it, then he'll get a chance to play with higher skilled players. |

If Dano doesn't improve his play over the next few exhibition games he will be lucky to be on the third line of the Moose. He was awful last night. |

Yeah...he's certainly not ahead of Armia on my depth chart. |

You can pick apart individual players for being brutal (Nogier, Dano) or needs development (Stanley) or could likely show better with more skilled players (Conner) or looked fairly stable (Helly) and the special teams for being MEH, but after watching the game from the stands what stood out for me was the absolutely lack of "urgency".
I know it is only pre-season game #1, but for a team that keeps saying that the playoffs are the only goal this year, then last night was certainly not how you walk the walk, considering we keep hearing them all talking the talk. |

I feel like I'm stuck in some bizzaro world where people keep putting Petan as a 3rd line C. It's not happening, they moved him to wing so that he can hopefully show something...anything as a pro.
Petan can be sent to the Moose without waivers, as can Lemieux, Connor, Roslovic, etc. Dano cannot, Copp cannot, Armia cannot. One of those young players has to seriously outplay the players who would be lost on waivers or force a trade.
Hendricks will be on the team because, honestly, who cares if he is in the press box. He doesn't need to develop. |

You're right. Destroying every league he's ever played in, and dragging Lowry and Armia around all night is purely coincidental. Definitely not because he's a high end player deserving of more ice. |

I can't take this negativity. Who are the Jets going to beat out to get in the playoffs. It will be extremely difficult, so get use to it. Wait to see who is in first place, go for them and stop the whining. This is the same stuff year here year after year. |

You guys need to accept Maurice's line up on opening nigh will look extremely close to this if not exact.
Laine/shief/wheels
Perrault//little/ehlers
Connor/Lowry/armia
Copp/Hendricks/Tanev
Mathias
Dano
Morrisey/trouba
Enstrom/buff
Kulikov/Myers
Chariot
Maurice has said very clearly the fourth line is for penalty killers not to play 5 on 5. I for one am not overly concerned about a line that plays five minutes a night5 on 5 |

Jets are going to beat the entire Central Division. First place in the division, book it! |

Has he shown that he can play centre with the Moose or Jets successfully? His zone coverage for a centre is poor and that's not on who his line mates are.
The coaching staff has moved him to the wing to have hime try to emulate Perreault...who also could not play centre.
Scouting reports for him coming out of the WHL stated that he would have to move to wing to find a niche as a pro. Do I have to go on?
People are slotting him in as a 3C based off what he did in the W 3 years ago. Send him to the Moose, have him learn to play wing or centre as a pro, call him up if Little or Scheifele get hurt (as long as he is outperforming other young players on the Moose) |

Finally someone who put a lineup together based on reality. I don't think Tanev starts with the Jets though. Otherwise, exactly as I had it.

I am. It ruins Connor, Copp, and Dano's development, sees AHL players get caved in for 5 minutes a night (Hendricks and Tanev), and suggests that Hendricks and Tanev will kill penalties. Which they won't. They'll just take them, or run around confused on the PK while the other team scores.
I also expect Kulikov to be with Buff, and Toby and the giraffe to be a pairing. Mostly because Byfuglien can carry anyone, Enstrom is our #2 shutdown guy, and Myers and Kulikov are brutal defensive players. |
