We all know there are not many NHL spots available to be earned by young players and training camp invites.

i count 5 established defencemen who can play a regular role: Weber, Petry, Benn, Alzner, Schlemko. unless that Russian guy proves to be a revelation, there is a massive door for a rookie to walz through on D. if any of them are NHL-ready they have a shot at a roster spot.

Just over 5 a year isn't too much. He would have got 6 in a year.
