Thoughts are with all about to face the wrath of Irma. Be it those who live there or those who are going to go help with the impact and recovery from the storm.

From me as well. I have a few friends in Key West who are staying and riding it out. I tried my best to talk them out of it, but they're stubborn. I'm really worried about them. Luckily for us, our condo is on the 2nd floor of a very sturdy concrete block building and we have steel hurricane shutters over all of our windows and on our deck. We always move everything in from the deck and close all shutters when we leave in May. I just hope the common areas of our complex don't get too badly damaged and, much more importantly, that no one gets killed.

absolutely insane what that storm is....hopefully the people that choose or are forced to stay make out ok...they really are in harms way.
Growing up a Flyers fan it was always about the team, I didn't really have a favorite player, until Lindros came along, the guy was just dominant, period!

It's scary, I saw what Wilma did to Key West and this storm is much more severe than Wilma. Even if the center hits the Miami area, Key West is looking at a 5 to 10 foot storm surge, 8-12 inches of rain and steady winds of 80-90 mph with gusts possibly reaching 120 mph. When you consider that most homes and businesses on the island are only 1 to 4 feet above sea level, it's just horrifying to think about.
I can't even imagine how bad Miami could get hit. They could have winds at ground level of upwards of 150mph. However at the top of many of the city's high rises, wind speeds could easily exceed 200 and perhaps come close to 250mph. That is terrifying.

The folks from the Keys I know aren't leaving, either. They are super stubborn about it, too.

They are all nuts. My one friend is a single mom with a 5 year old. Yeah she has a solid 2 story home, but still. Even if, God willing, your home survives the storm with only minor damage, you may still be looking at up to a week or more without power and possibly up to a week before regular food deliveries resume to the lower keys.
I'm not even sure what the equivalent would be in today's game to 88.
Because of his physicality, maybe Ovie? But Ovie isn't the playmaker that Eric was in his prime. Eric had the passing ability the league in assists and was an elite faceoff guy.
Because of his size and hands, maybe Malkin is a better comparison? But even in that comparison, Malkin isn't nearly as physical as Eric was. Early career Eric would put dudes into the 3rd row with a check just because he could.

If I was Taylor Leier and Cole Bardreau made the Flyers ahead of me despite him still being waiver exempt I would be very disappointed.
I think Leier will safely pass thru waivers if he isn't on the team at the end of camp, but it's gotta be somewhat nerve wracking for a kid who has spent five years in the organization to know that in four weeks he could be claimed by another team and have to pack his bags and move to some other North American city. Of course, the 10x salary increase from being on an NHL roster would be decent compensation.

This!
Eric Lindros is the single reason why I'm a Flyers' fan.
When I think of Lindros, I think of his last goal as a Flyer. Playoffs. Eastern conference final against the Devils in 2000. First game back from injury. Stripped of the "C". I'm sure he was very frustrated with his position with the organization, which was unfair but he went out and he played. We were down 2-0. Goalie pulled with a minute left. Brodeur in net. Keith Primeau had a nice faceoff win. The Flyers had Brodeur looking the other way. I don't even think Brodeur saw it when BigE roofed it.

It sucks and I certainly hope that nobody gets hurt or dies, and I hope that everyone would be smart enough to just get the heck out of there, but as far as buildings and possessions go - eh, they knew the risks when they chose to build there.

Good thought - not sure there is a direct comparison today. Maybe a combination of AO and EM?
Shortly after I became a die hard fan Lindros was acquired. The only players I saw live that had the same impact were Mario, Bure, Federov, and Selanne during his and erics rookie season.
By the time I saw Gretzky in person he was in LA in the 90s.
The only player during that time that I feel was more dominate was mario in 92-93.

There is no current equivalent to Lindros in the NHL. The best all time comparison would probably be Gordie Howe. At 6'1 205, he was huge in an era where the average player was 5'10 180 and during his prime he could dominate games with both skill and/or brute force.
