Recchi? Lol. Not even close. Lindros is the only guy from that era that deserves to have his number retired.

I've asked myself whether or not the Flyers should retire Recchi's number myself. Your instant reaction to the question should be no but look at Brett Hull's career. Has/should St Louis retired Hull's number? If yes, than why? He never won a Cup there. Brett Hull has played for many teams outside of St Louis.

I'm sorry if this is a stupid comparison but Recchi has done a lot of damage as a Flyer.

Outside Lindros who will have the honor this season, I honestly can't pick out one Flyer who was on that level in Philly to Match the Players in the rafters already. I think it will be a long time before we see another number raised up.

What are Recchi's point totals with the Flyers and who are they most comparable to?

Terrible comparison, Hull had almost 1000 points with the Blues, 5 50+ goal seasons, which 3 of them were 70+. 4 100+ point season. you can't even compare the 2 players as to their time with those respective clubs.

Recchi had 627 points as a Flyer; 8th in franchise history. LeClair is 7th (643), Brind'Amour is 9th at 601.

BTW, Claude Giroux is currently at 575. Within the next two seasons, he will likely be in the franchise all-time top five in points. He won't catch Clarke (1,210) and probably won't catch Barber (883) or Propp (849) but the top four is reachable. MacLeish is currently 4th (697) and Lindros is 5th (659 in just 486 games; best points-per-game average in franchise history).

Brett Hull put up 3-straight 70+ goal seasons with the Blues, scored 527 goals and 936 points (incuding 4 straight 100+ point seasons) in 11 years with the Blues. He served as the captain for 4 years and is the #4 all-time NHL goal scorer.

Recchi is a great player and a HOFer. However, what he meant to the Flyers during his times here is not on par with what Hull brought to St. Louis. In my opinion, anyway.

Edit: Mats Sundin is probably a better comparable, to me, strictly as a player. But even with Sundin, he had 10 years as captain, and is the franchise all-time leader in goals and points.

As much as I love recchi I agree he shouldn't have his number retired. The other player I might consider is Desjardins.

I always liked Recchi and what he brought to the team is impressive looking back at the stats, and that's why he should be in the Flyers' HOF, and he will be.. But number retirement should be a rare thing

Recchi should absolutely be in the Flyers Hall of Fame but I wouldn't retire his number.

Re Primeau:

I know he gets a lot of heat from some around here for the Bill Barber situation, but I think he handled it as well as he could. At the end of the day, even as Captain, he's still a player and in that type of ugly situation, he has to have his fellow players backs. Could he have done more to prevent things from getting that bad?Perhaps, but from everything I've read about that time period, veteran players repeatedly tried to bring their concerns to Barber, but the coach had no interest in hearing what they had to say. I have all the respect in the world for Bill Barber and I can't imagine the hell he was going through in his personal life, but all that being said, I don't think he handled the coaching job well during his final season with the club.

It's all water under the bridge now anyway. I will always give Primeau a lot of respect for getting the team on the same page as Hitchcock, and for his amazing play during the 04 playoffs. It's a shame that concussions had to end his career early and make his life so difficult for so many years. I hope he is 100% symptom free these days and enjoying life.
