Honestly whats the real risk? I suspect there will be some fluidity in the lines this year especially until Christmas. If its economical, why not? - geta02it
That's my thinking, too. And if his game somehow falls off a cliff he'll be on a one-year deal. |

Would be a good idea. From where I'm sitting, RW is your only real weakness, no? |

Ironically, yes while Centre is probably our strength up front. The entire time that Iggy played here we couldn't find a centre to save our lives. |

Honestly if you read the entire article it sounds to me that Jager doesn't want to play here.

Where are you reading into that. Sounds like he feels his production is worth 3.0 mill per & is waiting for someone to step up & pay him what he wants.

Jagr has maintained he's not interested in playing in Canada for.. 15 years now? Todd just can't find anything to write about.
This blog beats his analysis of Ryan Lambert's garbage opinion or his revision of Haynes' article about Brouwer's place in the lineup.
I would say a piece about remaining RW options would encourage more discussion.
Even a further look into Marek Hrivik's work would be interesting. Rangers fans have a hard time drawing negatives about him. A very decent 4th line RW that should compete with Brouwer, Hath, Lazar for a spot. |

New location? Your old one came true. Although gotta wait a few years to buy the guy out.
Still positive about mine. |

Remaining RW options < What we have in the system
Honestly, Jagr is the only UFA that I think would be worth taking a shot on (possibly Vanek--but I don't really think he would help us win in the playoffs more than who we have already).
Jagr would probably look pretty good with Bennett and Versteeg (probably even better with Johnny and Money ). If Jagr doesn't want to sign here then I'd be more than happy to just roll with what we have. If we need help maybe we take a shot on Doan or Iggy if they look good playing in the Olympics (if they go). |

as a non-flames fan that doesn't mind rooting for Calgary, I would love to see Iggy finish his career with a Flames Cup! |

As great a story as that would be, Iggy left on kinda weird terms nixing a trade to Boston in favor of Pits. Also, his last couple years here he had the country club mentality.
Would have loved to see the guy lift a cup but when he went to Colorado he kinda screwed himself on that one. |

3 mill on a 1 year deal isn't much of a risk. We've waited long enough now where we can probably get him for under 3 mill, which is well worth the risk IMO.
Maybe Bennett could sign a 2x2.25 and Jagr could sign for 1x2.25. That should leave us enough wiggle room to sign Kulak and freely move him or other Stockton guys up and down.
Johnny Money Jagr -->Primary scoring line. They're there to score goals.
Ferland Backlund Frolik -->Dominant shutdown line with offensive upside.
Tkachuk Bennett Versteeg -->Good secondary scoring line that could double as a good shut down line.
Janko-Stajan-Brouwer/Foo/Whoever the (frank) else -->Give Janko a chance to work his way up the lineup/steal jobs.
These lines could be pretty fluid all year (except I'd keep the pairs together).

I see what your saying. Just don't see enough roster spots for everyone. We've invested too much in Lazar, Brouwer, Foo, Janko to start with some in the press box. Not to mention Stagan and giving hope to any of the forwards on the farm.
Sign Bennett play him with Versteeg and Tkachuk, let Brouwer and Lazar battle it out to see who plays with Backs. Janko starts with Stagan mentoring [grooming ] him to take over. |

I would be 100% okay with this. In fact, it's what I'm hoping will happen if we don't decide to sign Jagr (minus Brouwer on Backs' line ).
Treliving has pushed a lot of chips in these last few years (trading draft picks/prospects for roster players). The only reason I'm okay with signing Jagr is that, to me, it signals that we are actually going for it all.
A roster with Jagr on it is probably the best possible roster we can ice this year--There is a finally an opening for someone to make it through the west, we may as well go for it these next few seasons. If making a young guy wait an extra year is all it costs to have a shot at winning a cup, then I am for it. |
