Now who the hell plays d if maatta is moved? Tanger for part of a season, dumo, Schultz, Cole, hunwick, pouliot , ruhwhedal. No thanks. Maatta has his warts but unless a second deal brings in a different d man pens don't have the depth in d to move one. Find out what you can get for hags or horny or rust.

I think we are 12 months away on this trade. They will ride rnh for another year until they need to cut salary.

Fwiw I don't think maatta for rnh is a huge steal. Rnh at 6 per year isn't great value based on current production but he does offer some upside. I think I would do the deal but you have to be pretty low on maatta to think this is a homerun

Why not just move him up to McDavid's wing, since Draisaitl will be running his own line this season. Get one of those new acquired players into the 3rd line center role. Have Jokinen playing with and mentoring Puljujarvi however you spell that guys name and whoever else.

Trading him isn't a bad idea either though. If they find the right move why not go for it.

Gotta give up something to get something. Not trading Maatta because Pens have no surplus on D-men, even if they would get Butcher. They do on wings and don't know who is the real Sheary going forward.

I really do like the idea of Nuge but I don't see it. I think Hornqvist is exactly the type of player Chiarelli would over value but at one year of term I don't see it unless he really, really undervalued RNH.

Please leave Chia pet alone, quit picking on the poor guy!
Ps Flopkins really isn't that good, they'll try to tell you he's good defensively which is to justify his poor offence. Younger Matt Stagan!

Maatta for RNH is good with me. There are some FA D that could fill in for Maatta (e.g., Franson) or could be acquired via trade for a draft pick (esp from LAS who have too many D atm, e.g., Colin Miller, Brayden McNabb, Griffin Reinhart).

If EDM could take on $1m per year that would be perfect imo. They would still save $1m on the cap but get a good young D...for PIT, it's an extra $1m...if EDM not open to taking the extra cap hit, I think PIT could get a 3rd rnd pick or prospect as well...

Larsson is blah. Dude is an okay 3-4th defenseman.

If Chia trades RNH before Drai proves to be a capable second line C then he's dumber than even I thought. And I think he's a (frank)ing moron.

Drai was excellent with McDavid. His numbers with Hall were even better. His numbers without those two are pretty mediocre.

Lets assume Chiarelli is the idiot we all think he is and he's set to trade the Nuge before the season starts. What is the return you'd want, a return you'd think is reasonable, and a return you'd expect given Chiarelli's track record?

If they would eat 1 mil I'd give up a buttload for him... but that 6 mil price tag has me so iffy on him. You'd have so much invested in 3 Centers... but I like the option being out there.

But no chance they'd eat cap when they are about to become a cap ceiling team too

Saying Adam Larsson is a depth player and non descript is like saying Malkin is a depth player and non descript. Incredibly ignorant. If you have never watched him play you should just say so instead of making ridiculous statements like those.

Good to see, and surprisingly after the Larsson comments, you value RNH adequately.

RNH gets lots of praise from his teammates, his coaches, and his GM. I don't believe he gets traded until at least the trade deadline and depending how the season goes for him/Edmonton there is still a 50/50 chance they move others instead of him.

For certain RNH will not be traded for a left shooting defender and the Oilers will need a lot more cap space than 2 million if trading him.

If Nuge goes I imagine it's for picks and prospects only.

NAH- , he's a quality defender

I mean we certainly lost on pure value but he brings a lot of what the oilers needed

got some flaws, but he gives a ton of leeway to klefbom and is really good in his own end and separating the puck . They make a solid top pair. (it's our 2nd with an injured sekera that's an issue) comf with him as a 2, but probably better served as a really good 3.

As far as nuge, they'll sell low for cap space. But not till next offseason
