Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks climb prospect rankings, meeting with UFA Alex Kerfoot Slowly but surely, the Vancouver Canucks are growing their prospect pool, and they're looking to make another addition with NCAA free agent centre Alex Kerfoot.

I agree with Pronman on Keller. He was the guy I would have taken in 2016

even if we landed in the top 3 in 2016 I would have taken Keller before Pool-Party.

Today @ 1:15 PM ET
Per Rick Dhaliwal:

Told the Canucks have phoned Alexander Kerfoot and will be meeting with him today.

Told the Canucks, as of right now, have not phoned or contacted Will Butcher

Butcher would be a good add but not sure if JB wants another small D in the system. But he's got lots of interest from contenders like Hawks, Pens etc.

Pronman is truly terrible at his job. I have no idea how he stays employed. Button is substantially more qualified to rank prospects. I am also beginning to thing that Garth Snow would be a better prospect guru

Or me. I could do it.

Great read! And if the nucks were able to draft 1st overall, drafting Dahlin would be a game changer! And they should of tried to load up on free agent 1 year deals, that could hopefully be flipped at the trade deadline! Wash Rince repeat! And if they could retain on the sedins salery (wouldn't be easy! ) but give them a chance to win the cup,and possibly resign them on July 1st? And gino and Rick #sad hopefully gino is in a decent amount of spirits!

Okay Ben Hutton for RNH.

14,216,333 in cap space for 10 players next season. 6 RFA's including Nurse, Caggiula, Strome.

if you follow the penguin model, and lock up your top two franchise centerman for big money, you still aren't getting even close to the same deal. Malkin @ 9.5, Crosby @ 8.7. McDavid @ 13.25, Draisatl at 8.5. That is insane money on EDM's part. Don't get me wrong, Draisatl and McDavid are beast players, but that cap hit though.

In all seriousness though, EDM will have to look at maybe getting rid of RNH, and start shedding some cap, or risk losing decent players.

He actually looked like being the next Karlsson.

Rasmus Dahlin might be closer to Oliver Ekman Larsson. Both great defenders.

MAlkins cap % was 14.77, McJesus is 16.67.

Crosby 14.50, Draisitl 11.33.

I don't even know how Pitt gets it done.

Problem is Edm has will have a bunch of 925,000 cap hits, Pitt has like 6 players with 600,000 cap hits.

While Will Butcher and Alex Kerfoot get all the headlines, another NCAA free agent is getting some attention from around the league. Ryan Kennedy of The Hockey News reports that the “lead suitors” for Blaine Byron are New Jersey, Ottawa, Buffalo and Vegas. Byron became a free agent today after not signing with the Pittsburgh Penguins, despite his 41 points as a senior for the University of Maine.

This is why the Canucks need to continue to look for high-end talent via the draft, they don't have it in abundance. Not to take anything away from the picks they've made, I like them, but the high-end guys are still absent IMO.

I seriously doubt it, he played well for them last year and 4 million for four years is no worse than paying Sbisa 3.6 million because he's good in a scrum. In the long run Sbisa's contract didn't hurt the Canucks and Russell is twice the player Sbisa is.
