Can you imagine the 180 Garth will make on this kid if he decides to sign with the Leafs?

Yeah, but like his typing he'll accidentally go a full 360 intending to stop at 180, not double check, and then start singing his praises again.

swift skating and high skill? I dont think you have watched a game of his before

His best asset is his hockey IQ, he isnt a great skater (not a bad one but hes not a burner) and he doesnt have natural offensive abilities.

You can save that for your next blog

Anybody who wins the Hobey Baker has "natural offensive abilities". That's ridiculous. Whoever this kid signs with they are getting a good player.

This just shows how much the Avs are an absolute tire fire right now with Sakic at the helm. Duchene drama, Butcher out, Zadorov threatening the K, Grigorenko to the K, Foote out, didn't protect Pickard, signed Yakabust, holy smokes the list goes on. Time to blow it up in Denver! You had your 2 cups take a back seat

Zads isnt going to the K, never was and is going to be with the Avs for a logn time (he already has a 2 year bridge deal agreed upon, Avs and him are still talking long term deal as per the inside info from BSN)

Butcher wouldnt even make the Avs team and be a Top 4 D prospect on the team, so no harm no foul, hes a decent prospect but lets be honest, hes no game breaker in teh making.

Foote was a part time Development Consultant who lives in Canada...again nothing major, its just people who want to make a story out of nothing. He still is around the Avs. He went to watch and was sitting with Avs mgmt at the Ivan Hlinka tourny...but yeah I guess that means its a dumpster fire.

The duchene thing is frustrating but if Sakic is getting low offers I would rather keep one of their best players Instead of giving him away bc other team fan bases are saying it's embarrassing

Yak is a 850k gamble, whats wrong with that.

Pickard had one of the worst regular seasons stats for a starting goalie in over 20 years...again hes a back up long term, relaly not a big issue there. Varly when healthy is a Top 15 goalie in thie league. Hes worth protecting, Pickard even when healthy and playing top of his game cant match what Varly brings when he is healthy and playing to his levels.

keep trying though

I agree Yak was a reasonable gamble. They signed him for cheap, so why not?

But your comments on Butcher do sound like sound grapes. You must realize that

I do realize that but I am being brutally honest, I honestly dont care about the kid before this season and wont care about him after he signs anywhere else.

He never was a must watch or must sign prospect for the 4 years since he has been drafted. I think he could be a NHLer one day but really he isnt some Top 4 lock that some people are claiming him to be. He is a smart player, high hockey IQ has got him this far but he lacks a lot of tools that would really help him make the Pro Level adjustment.

If he works on his skating he could have a shot, but he isnt an offensive juggernaut. He has had some decent seasons but its not like he was the Top scoring Dman in the NCAA for multple seasons, he wasnt even it last year.

Hope he finds the team he is looking for, but its a bit crazy that a guy that will be 90% chance he starts in the AHL is getting all this hype

He reminds you of Vatanen and Ryan Ellis because they are all 5'-10"? First of all, Vatanen and Ellis are not even close to being "similar". They play a completely different style. Sure, they are both good/great skaters, and have above average offensive abilities, but similar? Not even close!

Seriously, have you ever even watched Butcher? I highly doubt you've seen any more than highlights, and MAYBE the National Championship game.

He was a 5th round pick. He played on a really good college team, and he had one good season, ouy of 4. He did win the Hobey Baker, but it was a down year for that specific award.

Sabres fans, and other fans alike, don't lose sleep over this guy. If the Sabres get him, great, he can go play in Rochester for at least 3 years because he's certainly not ahead of Guhle or Borgen. But the more prospects, the better. I'm just don't really care all that much, because this kid isn't anything special.

But don't worry. As soon as he signs with a team that isn't the Buffalo Sabres, all of the sudden Garth will be pointing out all of his flaws as a player.

The majority of Hobey Baker winners amount to nothing in the NHL, and the ones that do go on to have good NHL careers usually have won the award at a younger age such as Paul Kariya and Jack Eichel. I'm not saying he will not be a good player, but to pencil him in as a good NHL player based on him winning the Hobey Baker award is wrong.

Can someone please tell me the logic behind the Sabres using up a home game to play the Rangers at Citi Field in the Winter Classic?

It makes no sense to me.

They sell a lot of tickets. I don't get it. The Sabres may need the point or 2 at the end of the season.

Any ideas????

I read that is a tax issue . If The Rangers host a game outside MSG that they lose their tax status and pay way more taxes . So Bettman got the Sabres to be the home Team

What really makes no sense is why the NHL didn't have this year's Winter Classic in Buffalo since the rink will already set up at New Era Field for the USA vs Canada world Junior game and would mark the 10th anniversary of the first winter classic game in Buffalo. So our Sabres season tickets went up $400 and we lose a home game...that's bullcrap

Actually, the Sabres have already said that the World Junior game is the reason they can't host the Winter Classic.
Outdoor rinks are difficult to build and maintain at an elite level, especially with unpredictable weather. Sabres and Bills officials have said it would not be possible to transform the rink and stadium for two games in four days with crowds of 70,000 or more.

Because the Bills will probably need the field for their deep playoff run.
