He's a 34 goal scorer at 21. If the deal is long term, I'd pay him 7 million easy.

Yeah, if they can get him signed long-term for $7m per year, do it. Unless they have some info that makes them believe last season was a fluke, you lock him up at that price and hope he keeps developing. That's how you get several years of an $8m or $9m a year player at $7m.

if bruins don't have money for pasternak and for the next young guy in the club, they should trade the older guy like Chara Krejci Backes before Pasternak... don't make sens to me at all... maybe no one want Krejci with the big salary and the injury problems... and they want to keep Chara for Carlo and Mcavoy ???? Chara got only one year on is contract... they still have 10M left... pasternak cost what ? 6M ? maybe he'S asking more then MArchand contract and they don'T want to pay him what he's asking for.. i think they don'T have the choice to pay the guy.. is the face of the franchise for the next 10+ years... as a habs fan i'll be more then happy to see them trading pasternak away... GO SWEENEY GO !

The issue isn't term or dollars, because the bruins have the money in cap dollars. The problem has to be the new trend in contracts, and that is guarenteed money/signing bonus. It looks like we'll be going down that road again, so players want the dough up front, and if anyone has half a brain, they know Jeremy Jacobs isn't going to sign off on a deal structured like, for example, stamkos or price. Ironically, Jacobs is usually the engineer behind lockouts.

I think you just stumbled onto the problem in contact negotiation here. Boston probably wants to give a bridge deal until players like Chara and Backes start retiring. For Pastrnak, that means waiting for money that he deserves now.

kessel got $5.4M for 5 years from the leafs when the cap was $56M.

i'd say $7M-$7.5M for 5 years for pastrnak on a $75M cap is pretty comparable.

Maybe you need to start calling all of the players by their nicknames, like haggerty does.

If the deal runs until he's a free agent at 28, he'll be inclined to take it. That's the age at which he'll get a mammoth deal.

Pastrnak isn't going ANYWHERE. It's clearly just been a slow media time for the NHL as of late.

You'll need to do better than that. You're at least taking Beleskey's entire contract in addition.

The Bruins are defensively in trouble right now, but trading Pastrnak is not the smart move to bolster their defense. They haven't made great decisions over the past few seasons, but are not far off from a few key small moves to tighten up.

If Beleskey goes to COL then BOS will have to shoulder the cost of paying for Grandpa Jost's hospice care
