Can I call him a bust yet? Or can I do that when he does not make the team out of training camp.

How can you call Edmontons fan base anything but patient?

In terms of putting up with a team that was terrible for a decade sure but it isn't like they had much other choice. Oiler fans are some of the most passionate in the league but that same fervor causes some problems. Fans calling for Eberle's head even though he put up 20 goals in a down year, those who brought out the pitchforks when Hall was traded then a few months later were showering Chia with praise.

The fanbase rides the highs and lows and that's okay, it's why many of us watch sports. All I am saying is whether Yamamoto scores two hat tricks in preseason or goes pointless, people need to temper their expectations.

so the only resemblance to Johnny is he's small? I reserve the right of judgement oil i watch him play more this season.
Doesn't surprise me that Chia makes history by drafting the first midget in the !st round.

He's also American too!
I'm hoping he does well, and people stay patient. Unlike the "OMG HE WENT TO THE AHL! JESSE PULUJULUJULUJAVAVALIARVI BIGGEST ULTRA BUST SINCE YAK" talk.

Fans weren't calling for Eberle's head because of his numbers... They were calling for his head because he has no drive, and didn't give a (frank) on the ice. He's insanely talented, and can make a difference when he wants to, but he clearly doesn't have the drive that I (and many others) want in a player... It's either that or he has some sort of medical condition. Perhaps he needs some b12 shots?

Many scouts compared him to Gaudreau as far as skillset too. When you're that small you aren't going to make it by being a physical presence. Guys like Yamamoto and Gaudreau pave their way by being speedy players with fast hands and a quick shot. As I said it's way too early to suggest Yamamoto will be as good as Gaudreau. Just noting that there are players of similar stature and skillset who have done very well in the NHL.

I can understand that. There are those who have felt that way for a number of years and I won't criticize someone for sticking to their convictions. However there are many fans who weren't complaining of that when he was scoring 25 or more goals and his style of play (little defensive drive) wasn't any different then.

Was more the fact that you see glimpses of magic from the guy (ie: his first NHL goal etc) and then the only magic he did come playoff time, had David Copperfield wondering how someone can disappear so well

So he's more like Mathew Phillips that the Flames drafted in the 6th round?

You can be pissed about his drive all you want, but when it comes down to it aren't results all that matters? From an outside point of view it seems like he became the goat one yak was shipped out.

I think maybe the 6 million dollar price tag was no longer acceptable for his lazy a$$

Would most still feel the same way if expectations weren't so high? I know he had a reputation for stepping up in the big games, but that was from back in junior.

If he isn't providing offence Eberle is pretty much useless

So he has a down year by his standards, and a rough playoffs, so that makes him useless? He shot 5ish % below his average, and still posted 20 goals. I'd put my money on a rebound year with close to 30 goals.

Regular season he was fine aside from looking disinterested and in the playoffs he just plain sucked donkey cock.

Skating hard, staying in the play, being defensively responsible, and not being a pussy kinda means something in the NHL. Good riddance to Eberle, that lazy son of a b1tch.

Making 6 million per season and he couldn't be interested for 15 to 20 minutes a game... Unbelievable. So glad he's gone. If Strome plays with any heart at all, I'll be happy with the trade.
