Say what you will about these fancy numbers/stats and how much stock should be put into them but what I dont get is how if you love the game of hockey you can not find them at least a bit interesting.

Im a middle man when it coes to the numbers. I beleive they are of use but I just know that there's so many variables in hockey that can not be quantified...so to me these fancy numbers are in no shape or form the be all end all concrete predictors of outcomes.

These charts directly show a correlation between time after entry and goals scored....now I might catch myself counting the seconds after entries this upcoming season....which is drawing near....but too slowly!

Maybe not...I said at the end of June that i think they're going to either start training camp or the season without having acquired one (yet)....and you know what? if that happens they'll still be good. Who needs a 3C when you have a healthy Letang anyway?

So the most goals are scored at six seconds mainly due to rebounds. I guess the old adage-go to the net if you want score goals still holds true.

Having the puck and getting closer to the goalie leads to scoring goals in a short amount of time.

Tell me more.

Look, I'm all for bashing people trying to play hockey on Excel spreadhseets, but all this blog does it confirm that common sense does, indeed, exist.

Did you ever think about not being you?

Yes. Changing the trajectory of the shot in close proximity of the goaltender, who is attempting to block the shot, should also help lead to more goals.

I feel like a lot of people put stock into cycling and board play and grinding.. and these kind of stats show how much more often goals come off the rush than the cycles.

So puck possession isn't nearly as important as generating odd man breaks and breakout chances and having great players among the forward ranks to convert those chances.

Sounds pretty much exactly like the Penguins playoff run this year, especially the Caps series where the Penguins were supposedly thoroughly outplayed but made the most of the juicy opportunities they got.

Don't forget our tenders apparently got "lucky" by outplaying their counterparts.

Ryan, I'm trying to get myself into the advanced analytics more and more, and I want you to know that you're the most helpful bloggers on this site for that. Thanks, especially for your "what do we do now" blog a few weeks ago.

Playing a team with Niemi in net will also magnify the chances of scoring more goals..........hang the (frank) on!!!
