the hype train begins from G. Do some comparisons Garth.

Ellis plays a similar style as Butcher. You never disappoint.

Hey, it doesn't hurt to dream, dreams are free. I would feel pretty confident that GMJB knows Butcher all too well, since he is a huge fan of college development. Let the wooing begin.

butcher is 2 years out from maybe being a 3rd pairing guy in the NHL, I dont see whats appealing about him.

Would have liked him to sign with the Avs but wont lose sleep on a guy who probably wont see much if any NHL time in a signficant role

Free asset, just won Hobey Baker. Even if he's a 3rd pairing, 2nd PP guy...that's appealing. I agree that some of the articles out there hype him up to be a big up and comer...which isn't the case...but he's worth a contract. When a Hobey Baker winner goes UFA, it'll get reported. I wouldn't lose sleep...Petersen will do more for LA and I could care less.

Oh i know that, free asset is a free asset, but Butcher has a lot of work to do. Its sort of BS his reasoning on this....upset he wasnt offered an ELC 2 years ago and is acting like look at me now

IF he was playing in the AHL for 2 years based on how he was as a player back then, he would have been trucked. That guy until this year playing as a sophomore hasnt warrented an NHL contract.

Good work this past season but if he didnt put up a good season as a sophomore....that would have been more shocking. Its like if a CHL player thats been drafting now dominating as a 19 year old. Red Flags. And as a 22 year old he really wasnt dominate, good on a stacked team.

There was some rumor that Petersen was upset we didn't offer him a contract last season. Maybe that's the case, maybe it isn't. Just saying if the kid has NHL potential, which I think we can at least say he could potentially get there, it's going to draw some headlines and he does have some appeal. Is he 100% replaceable...yes. Is the hype 100% fabricated...not completely.

So getting down to brass tax...how much for Zads back? Still miss my boy.

I wouldnt trade my large adult son for anything

I just hope this KHL nonsense goes away, rumour is that he agreed to a 2 year bridge deal but the money is still in the air, something around 2.25 from the Avs, 3m from Zads camp.

Will get done in the next week or so I hope

Buffalo Sabres head coach Phil Housley plays a five man attack system that features the D jumping into the rush and supporting the puck below the face off circles in the offensive zone.

Hmm, why not join Pens, same style, maybe Butcher can speak to Schultz, get the lowdown on free agency and how well signing with a rebuild turned out.

If Housley tries to play that type of system with the Sabres collection of D and Forwards he won't be around very long. He'll find out soon enough about the gulf in talent of the Nashville blue-line and that of the Sabres. You can play that type of game when you can trot out Subban, Josi, Ekholm and Ellis.

Ummm, but, but Garf says Sabres have swift skating modern defensemen who play the uptempo style that is popular in today's NHL. Sabre's defense extraordinaire play a similar style to Ryan Ellis. Sabres defensemen can make the puck dance with their quick sticks.

Your hate of all things Garth is letting your stupid show . Their new GM has not done a bad job upgrading the d corp . Scandella and Beaulieu should really improve under Housley . McCabe played well under Housley in the world juniors. And Antapin could surprise. I think the Sabres will be greatly improved . Looking forward to some great games with the Leafs .

No need to get all excited about Butcher. Likely sign with the Rangers anyway. Will turn out to be another star like Veysey

Your hate of all things Garth is letting your stupid show Oh, the irony!

Listen, few teams in the NHL have the personnel to play Nashville's system. The Leafs don't. The Sabres don't. Scandella is a decent 3/4 D man. Remember, they got him for basically a 3rd liner in Foligno. So how good is he really? Beaulieu is 24 and has never lived up to his potential. You're right, Antipin could surprise. So could Guhle.

The Sabres may show great improvement this season. Who knows. Maybe their rookie coach will be awesome. The truth is most rookie coaches fail.

As for Garth. I, like many, continue to be perplexed as to why much incoming talent is touted as being great when none had or have accomplished anything at the NHL level at the time of the statement. Go back and read the archives on GMTM. Vesey? Peterson? Look on Grigorenko. Bylsma? I mean, who has seen this kid Butcher play? Besides, he's 23 years old and still playing college hockey. He's the same age as Morgan Rielly and he's played five years in the NHL.

Anipin? Could be a nice player. The Sabres version of Zaitsev. But he's 25, small and has never played in the NHL. Besides, who has actually seen him play?

I dont think he will be an impact player in the league at all, he could turn out to be a nice little NHL player, but I dunno he would have to really up his game for the first time playing against superior competition.

I dont see him turning into a Krug or Ellis type guy, could be wrong, and I have been wrong lots, but I just dont see that sort of potential in him after 4 years of reading and seeing his development path
