While I like the idea of trading for a dman who can help, it's just not happening.

Stay the course, stay patient and wait for Lillybust and Dermott to join the ranks.

Then move Gardiner for a more defensive minded left handed dman. Then some UFA, penalty killing warrior for the 6th dman (always available).

Mike while I agree with your assessment of the three best UFA's available, not crazy about any of them. It seems to me the Leafs need to make a trade or two to get the roster to a manageable size. I don't think the Leafs will want 50 contracts entering camp - leaves no flexibility. I would think a couple of trades are coming. A two for one and maybe a three for one would do the trick. Let's hope its for better than those UFA re-treads.

If the Leafs were not sure about Marner, they would not have selected him ahead of Hanafin. A brutal proposal, don't want Faulk, and Carolina not likely to trade Faulk. Carolina might be convinced to trade a d-man but it will likely be Jake Bean. Leafs could offer prospects, much better way to go than trading a gifted forward that really elevated his line last year - in his rookie season!
