Now imagine if Philly kept Bob instead of extended Bryzgalov...

don't forget, Rangers also acquired a 3rd rounder in the trade in return and used that on Pavel Buchnevich

He did break his 41 goal record with the rangers , anyhow seeing it's his last year in NY , I hope he finishes what he started and comes back , it won't be his team anymore but i'm sure he wouldn't mind playing second fiddle.

he probably deserved to finish higher in the Hart voting than 7th in that year too

42 goals and Rangers won President's trophy

I have to admit, at the time of the trade i was really upset... i was big on Duby and Anisimov....Although i didnt mind dealing Erixon (cause he is not the same type of player his father was), i disdain giving up 1st round picks.

Looking back, i still wouldnt have made the trade and i hope the Rangers could cash in by tbe deadline to make up for it

IMO Rangers won the trade. They have done more than Columbus since that trade. Rangers have made the finals since that deal. Columbus has not.

Nothing changes. Flyers D and PK are garbage and still is. Bob would do no better than Mason in Philly. It becomes null after that because we have no idea how either goalie will perform when Philly's D is done rebuilding. Watch out for Winnipeg, I expect them to do real well with Mason in net.

The Flyers need to start rebuilding the D when Pronger got hurt. Instead they tried replacing him which lead to many bad moves, 2 of which being JVR trade and Eminger trade. Flyers could have drafted Carlson with the pick they gave Washington.

Rangers have won 7 playoff series since the deal, a finals appearance and a Prez trophy

Columbus is still seeking their first playoff series victory

it's pretty much been a landslide

Can we just assume the Rangers built a better team , not sure Nash is synonymous with that success , heck I remember reader some Ranger fans wanted him out of town , management wanting to trade him because of questionable playoff performances ....

Nash is overrated and only plays hard when he feels like it. It's a shame as he has the talent to be a dominant player. If he played to his capabilities I would say the Rangers won this trade, but he did not so my vote is for CBJ

No question we wanted more in the playoffs. But this blog celebrates the Blue Jackets making the playoffs a couple of times since the trade. The Rangers have won 7 playoff series. Nash has been a HUGE part of that. The trade hasn't even been close.

Really? I beg to differ. In 5 years with the Rags he's had seasons of 42, 39, 69, 36 and 38 points. Outside of the 69 point season he has barely shown he is a second liner. That's really bad production from a guy making $7.8M per year.

BJ's got Dubi, so that is a win. He might still be a Ranger if he didn't hold out.

A bit overpaid, but that ends next year. Nash will sign a new contract for $4 million to stay on a competitive team.
Book it!

Meh, I'd call it a wash

Nash never amounted to more than he already was, which was a regular season goal scoring machine (I get it, he back checks now. Woo hoo). NYR made that trade thinking he was the big time high octane player they were missing to get them to a cup and it never matriculated when they needed that deal to pay off. Its not like NYR had trouble making the playoffs that they needed his regular season goal scoring that bad. Still, at the time Erixon had a lot of perceived upside as a very good prospect on top of the 1st round pick.

From CBJ perspective, the sum of the parts didnt quite live up to a player of Nash's caliber, but they still got a good total haul at the time and bolstered solid depth for a player that asked his way off the team and it was time to move him. Dubi has been solid, but not great by any means. Anisimov too. Both decent second liners or great third liners, depending on how you want to look at how cup ready your roster is. Shame Erixon and Rychel didnt pan out, but CBJ didnt get scrubs at the time that were throw ins. Dubi and AA were never supposed to replace nash and lead them to the promised land but Dubi is a solid player on a solid team now and AA turned into Saad who turned into Panarin

Still, neither team really got there in terms of desired outcome. NYR were already an ECF team and turned into a team last lost the Stanley Cup in 5 games. Not really huge strides. CBJ were already a non playoff team and turned into a team that had a franchise record season, but still havent gotten out of the first round. Wash.

that first season of "42" was the lockout shortened season of 48 games, he had a 21 goal, 21 assist season in 44 games played, use the common core math and figure out what that was in a whole season

not sure if you remember the lockout, maybe as a Devil fan you haven't watched a game since 2012, not sure

Forgive me. He still had 3 atrocious years for being considered a first line player. And yes, I still do watch hockey even though my team sucks because I am a true fan

in 2013-14, he led the Rangers in goals with 26 in only 65 games, the Rangers made the finals. He played every penalty kill. I assure you his season was not atrocious.

Very hard to grade this trade as CBJ also acquired Bobs around the same time. Bobs single handedly turned them into a contender. Nash has not lived up to his salary - but most players dont. any player being paid more than $5M generally is considered underachieving(there are a few exceptions).

I always loved Dubi and losing him was the hardest part of that trade, but i still think i would do it as Nash gave the rangers another weapon, and in all reality - a lot of hope.

I actually think the Gabby trade was the better trade for the rangers.

Dubinsky makes 5.85 mil a year, I mean, as much as I love the guy he is quite overpaid
