Based on last years stats the dollar amounts seems high on the surface. However, it's just a one year deal so this becomes less relevant.

I am somewhat divided on this contract. This just escalates a potential problem next year when the Jets are trying to resign as many as 18 RFA's include many major names . Also Comrie is on that list.

The upside is that even though Helly is locked into a one year contract, he is not a UFA for three more seasons including 2017-2018. So he needs to prove himself this year to get to a bigger deal. So Chevy doesn't risk locking him up for three to four years in the chance that he doesn't turn out to be what we think.

That all being said , what Poille is doing in Nashville is quite remarkable. He is locking down long term contract after long term contract at incredible values by paying up early. They will be a force to reckon with for quite some time thanks to some really smart salary management. Chevy on the other hand could find himself in real trouble at this seasons end with all those RFA's. He should have locked in some value on guys like Ehlers and Morrissey this summer. There is no doubting their talent will be there for the long term. Armia would be another . And heck...lock down Laine ASAP for 7 years. Nashville should be the prototype to follow here.
