I personally like the idea of going very long term, like 7 or even 8 years, but I don't think they'll do it
I predict 4 years and it will get done today |

5 years 4.5 - mdw7413
3 years just under 5. Then the Rangers and the Fans end up in the same situation as to why Zibanejad is overpaid on his 3rd contract while not living up to the cap hit. |
|
|
|
As I wrote, I hate the three-year deal. It only locks up Zib for one UFA year and gives him the advantage. Either you really like and you make a commitment long-term or need to see more and go with just one year. |

Why so negative? Usually you are so positive. |

Penguins and Brian Dumoulin agree on a long-term deal, six years with a $4.1 million AAV. I would love Jeff Gorton to lock up Skjei for that length of time and $ now. |

I will say this, Jimbo is retrospect was 100 %, he always wondered why Stepan and Mcdonagh weren't treated as equals. If they were, Stepan would still be a Rangers and the Rangers might not have had a hole at center.
The Rangers have played hardball with every impact player other than Mcdonagh on contract extensions. It'd odd. |

I just don't know if I trust Zib enough to give him anything over 5. Its a tough spot the rangers are in and Zib and his agent know it. |

They love the bridge deals, which I understand to an extent. But if have a player you identified as a core aspect of your team and can lock up him LT cheaper now, do it. This is what they should do with Skjei. Slightly overpay now, but save later. Rangers are saving about a mil per year and likely more on McDonagh, who is making $4.7 mil per season. |

Signed him after only his sophomore year in college. Has a good showing in 9 AHL games to end last year. I wonder if he's in the mix for a defensive spot. |

I think he's about 11th on depth chart right now

I'm sure you have, but this is a theoretical question. But have you seen Skjei's advanced metrics. They were elite level good. |

First time I'm ever hearing his name so you're likely right, but he technically has more NA Pro hockey experience under his belt than Pionk and Berzegelov. |

Then the Rangers better hope Chytil and Andersson are able to carry a large workload in a few years. |

once he starts playing more against the other team's best forwards, this stuff will even out |

There are a lot of good free agents coming up the next 1-2 years. |

Probably. But they were good in the Regular season and just as good in the playoffs. |
