Todd Cordell: Devils should give Severson term + Hall hints there may be moves to come

Sign markov or trade for mike green.... or trade for a really good dman named ..............

With some of the other contracts out there I think it would probably take 5 to get Severson locked up long term. I certainly think he's worth 5 years 25 million.

Detroit may have cap issues right now, but I don't think trading for one of their defenseman makes a lot of sense. DeKeyser and Ericsson are terrible with a lot of term left on their contracts.

mehhh.. Hall could just be like any of us, seeing the obvious with the cap space, the D, the forward "depth", and saying what he thinks is likely to happen given those circumstances.

actually, it's more like Hall saying that he knows this roster isn't competitive and Shero better do something to make the team better because Hall will walk away given the chance.

IF McLeod and/or Quinville make the team and play the full season up here, how many points could we expect from them?

If your defence is as bad you say, Taylor Hall has never played with a good blue line holding it down. I feel bad for Hallsy, hope the Devils turn it around.

I think by the time Hall is ready for a new contract the Devils will really start coming together and Hall will resign the defense will be adressed in the next season or two while our prospects gain experience when players like Zacha, McLoed, Hischier, Quenneville start hitting their expectations that's when Shero will strike and make a bold trade to bring in a shut down defenseman make a few smart trades along the way and you can have a cup competitor in 2-3 seasons

Shero has done well for as far as forwards go, but our defense has leaves a lot to be desired.

If not, if Nico amounts to no more than Nuge, if Zacha and McLeod don't pan out.. then Schneider will have 2 years left on his deal, and we might as well trade him for assets, suck again, and hope to land an actual franchise player to the likes of McDavid, Crosby, Kane, Matthews, etc. Maybe we'll get lucky if that time comes.

HOPEFULLY, Nico, McLeod and Zacha get so good that we'll either have a 3-headed monster like Crosby-Malkin-Staal, or we trade our "Staal" for a great piece on D.. or will have a defense so solid that we won't have to trade him.

Nico is nail

Looking at the Vet vs youth spread on the lines, what if Mcleod really impressed at camp and we saw something like this coming out of the gate:

Hall - Zajac - Mcleod
Mojo - Nico - Palms
Rico - Zacha - Q
Wood - Boyle - Noesen

This would better balance the rookie/vets on the lines and the top line may transist into Hall-Nico-Palms - or - Hall-Nico-Mcleod over the year depending on how it went.

Mcleod has some high level speed and good hands. He added 10 lbs of muscle and could very well be NHL ready. I know 1st line is a tough place to be put into but with those two linemates it could propel him also.

Nico would get a great supporting set of players, Palms would benefit that line for his finishing ability and some grit to ride with Nico wouldn't hurt either, not that Palms is tough but he's not Beau Bennet either.

Its all speculation at this point but as fast as Mcleod and Hall are, those two charging down either side with Zajac's abaility to anchor the middle and backcheck against elite players could really be a threat.
