HockeyBuzz Hotstove: Thoughts on Parayko's five-year extension with the Blues?

For all the venom Armstrong took after that Shattenkirk trade , I place the Blues with the Stars as this years off-season winners , I really liked that Brayden Schenn move , it insures somewhat of a life after Stastny ( unless he signs at a hometown discount) .

Love this contract. Army continues to sign guys to crazy deals. Tarasenko, Petrangelo, Schwartz, Allen, Bouwmeester, Sobotka, and even Steen all have great deals. The only real blunder he had was Lehtera and somehow he convinced Philly to take him for Schenn. He might win GM of the year (again) if all this pans out.

THe venom was from people who aren't Blues fans and don't really understand that Shattenkirk was TERRIBLE in his own end. Our team got so much better when Parayko took over his place.

I think Armstrong does extremely well with RFAs, and struggles with UFAs, as far as contracts go. Of course, all GM's should do well with RFAs, they have so much of the leverage; but looking around the NHL that's not the case. And only one of Armstrong's UFA contracts was a total bust, Lehtera; the rest are just slightly overpaid.

UFAs are all overpaid. He did really well with Stastny most teams would have given him 7 years. The fact we got him for only 4 was excellent.
