I've always been a pretty big Mike Smith fan. If the trapezoid rule wasnt in effect, he would have had a much better career

Smith has been inconsistent, but he's been playing behind one of the worst defense groups in the league. Even with next to no support, he's put up a couple of fantastic years.

As much as I hate to say it, the Flames are legit.
That defense is getting scary, and it's going to allow the young forward group to run wild and not have to worry too much about making mistakes.

The battle of Alberta is back. The three California teams are in the decline and it's basically an arms race in AB for the foreseeable future to see who comes out on top in the Pacific.

Todd, I didn't mind Mike Smith at all & after hearing him & Trelivings interviews, it made me feel even better. Treliving feels he may be 35 but he is extremely athletic & doesn't have the mileage on him. He is also pretty wired to be on a playoff team. Hamonic & Stone acquisitions probably got him more psyched than he has been in the last 3-4 years of absolute futility in Arizona. I like his nastiness too. Something we will need even more now that Engellend is gone. 2 years is perfect too. Also, Im not too worried, Tre is going to get some of those draft picks back.

With all that nastiness you and Brian Burke must have matching raging hardons. I could see some sword fighting in your future.

Having Lack as a fall back is pretty good too, IMHO

Last yr at this time I made honest opinionated comments that flames goaltending had lots to prove. I wasn't sold on there pick ups and I must say I was targeted and cut down. It's all good, apologies accepted! Lol This yr is much better imo. As long as he's healthy he will provide solid goaltending. Even backup options are better this yr. hopefully I don't take as much flak this yr for my opinion!

That's a scary fcking vision. As much as I love the old time brawling & bench clearing donnybrook, respectfully decline engaging in any sword fighting with Burkie.

You were just as negative and unlikable as last year. No one is valuing your opinion or apologizing to you at all.

Lack is due for a bounce-back year.

He patiently stewed in the AHL and was a great ambassador for the Canucks, when our affiliate was in Winnipeg.
He finally got his shot after Schneider was traded and outplayed Luongo to take over the starter's job.
He was rewarded by Benning signing Miller and relegating Lack to backup status.
Lack outplayed Miller, and his last game ended with the crowd in Vancouver chanting his name. His reward was being traded to Carolina.

I think with a fresh start, he can push Smith, and if Smith stumbles, Lack can step up.

He's one of the genuinely loveable characters in the NHL, and I'm happy he's getting a shot with an up and coming team.

It's not all in the numbers....hell, we saw exactly what the numbers got us in Elliott....."he's got the best blah blah blah since 1997 blah blah blah". A lot of it is how each goalie fits in a particular season. Tough to tell but I think Smith is more established than say Mason so I like the move.

I am a little jaded after the goaltending from the pasé 3 years. I am going to take a wait and see attitude.

Anyways any news on Bennett?

I didn't really know how to feel about the Smith trade when it first happened. I didn't love it, but didn't hate it, either.

It was after his interviews and seeing how fired up he was that really sold me on the deal. He seems geniunely excited to be a Flame and have a chance to play some playoff hockey. Not to mention the blueline he gets to play behind.

Smith put up some decent numbers considering the team he was playing for. He should be good for us. Plus, we've got Lack as a fallback now, too.

Well ur stupid for not because I'm usually right. Called it before season started and doin it again. Grow a pair instead of changing opinions weekly as season goes on or just keep taking the easy street of cutting anyone down that disagrees with you. I'll admit if I'm wrong, like thinking you were different from leaf fans or canuckleheads. Lol

Not here for browny points or to be likeable. Just discuss hockey good or bad, but always honestly and never from a fan perspective. If you don't like the truth then don't read it. Pretty simple there fry guy.

That's understandable, but this yr is diff, as long as healthy goaltending won't be an issue this yr. Backup is even a better opinion than last yrs duo.

I was just reading on tsn what Capitals are paying EVGENY KUZNETSOV, a 7.8mm cap hit per year that is crazy if you ask me. I think it goes to show how lucky we are to have Monahan signed to a cap friendly long term deal.

If Smith is healthy and has his head on straight then you got a good one. He's had issues staying healthy over the course of a full season the past few years. He also will allow the very soft goal from time to time. He sometimes gets in his own head after this happens and goes on stretches of completely ugly hockey.

Their GM is a moron for substantiating publicly the effects of the KHL on the negotiations... just gave leverage in a very public manner to players to use the KHL to their advantage

I think Smith is pretty much Brian Elliott 2.0. They are interchangeable for the most part. Just need to play good defense in front of either and they will take you far.

Not sure why they didn't just stick with KidElls...
