Schneider has started 40+ games just four times in his career, 50+ games three times, and 60+ games just once. He doesn't have a lot of mileage on him, which I think will help him age more gracefully than others.
I'm curious, is there any evidence that milage is a factor? I'm not saying it doesn't play a role, but unless there is evidence of this, I'd assume age and genetics (some people have bodies that are more predisposed to injury and wearing down than others) are by far the bigger driving forces than number of games played.

Scheider has never been the problem in NJ. He is above average although not elite.

Corey will post good numbers. It's the wasting of his prime I am more concerned with. |

only problem with corey was he single handedly kept the devils afloat and stole enough points to keep us out of serious lotto contention during the matthews mcdavid draft years. understand that winning the lotto is by no means a lock, but still.
lou's last ditch patch-work effort to be a contender instead of rebuild. |

There are many teams in the NHL that wish they had him as their goalie. Upgrade defense and his numbers will improve. |

This is spot on. The defense in front of him won't win any cups and he can only do so much without the right pieces in front of him. |

I really wanted Flames to make a deal for him but to my dismay when the rumoured ask for him was Gaudreau...... well.......obviously Shero doesn't want to trade him the greedy bastard |

I read last week in the Bergen Record that Schneider had abdominal surgery in the offseason. This should explain some of the slip in play. |

Not concerned with Cory at all. He will be fine. It's the defense in front of him that is the issue. Hard to gain any confidence with a bunch of scrubs in front of you playing terrible defense. |

Have read it on a few Flames Nations sites that the ask for Schneider was Gaudreau or Bennett. Not verified by the like of Friedman or anything like that. I'll try to look up where it came from. It came out shortly after the trade with Arizona for Smith. |

Hi Like Cory Schneider and I feil dat he is a gud goaly. Cory Schneider does a grate job hat stoping hocky puks and he stops the puks wen thay come hat him. Theirfour I like Cory Schneider. |

Cory is a solid NHL starter.
One bad year does not change that and also lead to a #1 OA selection.
He may never bounce back to being an elite top 5-10 goalie but I find it very difficult to imagine he will not be at least doing his part to get NJ into the playoffs and if the rest of the team pulls its weight I also don't doubt Cory will be outstanding in the playoffs. |

Gaudreau? holy smokes. Imagine Hall and Gaudreau as the 1st and 2nd line LWs? Hischier in the middle for one, McLeod with the other.. would be a very nice group moving forward. |

So if I understand the comments correctly
1. The Devils defense is awful
2. Corey is a good goalie but Not Elite
3. And someone needs to utilize spellcheck when they respond ( just kidding)
Anyway how long will it take the putrid defense to catch up with the Goaltending?
I figure it will be 2 years between developing Santini, Severson, Mueller and whoever they get in the draft.
The offense seems to be on a similar track
At that point is Corey still just as good or is HE now the weak link?
???????

That my friend is the million dollar question. I tend to think Schneider is elite |

Our D had holes in it and the third and fourth forward lines were awful at backchecking.
I think we can write off last year... |

Schneider has something in common with Bishop.
When he is hot, he flirts with true "elite" status.
When he is off his game, he is still no worse than average.
Most nights he is somewhere in between, which equates to above average.
Schneider is the least of the Devils' issues.

They actually think they're 1 or 2 pieces away from winning a cup. |
