Bob Duff: Tatar, Wings at odds
The Detroit Red Wings and forward Tomas Tatar are about $1 million per season apart in contract negotiations and could be headed for arbitration on Thursday. |

It's not Tatar's fault that Ken Holland has completely ruined the Red Wings. |

If you tell Holland that Polak is Dan Cleary's distant cousin then he might agree to this trade. |

That works perfect as that will be when Sami is 100% - Sami and a 2nd for Tatar - Wings save money and get a cost controlled top 4 RHD - |

Montour for Tatar straight up - Feds91Stammer
I'd be scared to make that trade - have a feeling that Brandon is about to supplant Cam and become the 3rd best Ducks D man behind Hampus and Josh - although for Tatar I would because he can fill it up and has good wheels - but it's a salary thing - Sami @ his is a better match for what Tatar is going to be paid than Brandon which is still entry level .... |

I'm not all that big on Vatanen and I would prefer the younger player but yeah I would see why that is a tough trade to look at. |

Of course the irony is that, now that we have a guy I'd actually be willing to overpay a little bit to keep around, Holland doesn't have the money. |

None of us should be surprised by what Tatar is asking for on this team. When Holland hands out 5,6, and 7 year contracts at ridiculously overpriced amounts to crappy or mediocre players it becomes what all the players want / expect. This team is such a trainwreck. |

Thanks to none other than the most incompetent GM in the league, still stuck in 1998. |

This. I don't understand how anyone could side with the owners. Then again the owner of my favorite team is slightly worse than Atilla the Hun. So I'm predisposed to hate them.

Even without those bad deals, I actually don't think $6 million is a ridiculous ask for Tatar. Ideally you'd want a little more of a discount, but that's really not far off from fair value.

It's much closer than Holland's lowball value of him likely in the 4 range. I expect Kenny will badmouth Tatar in the press all season via his press puppet HSJ, just like he did with Mrazek. |

If we're going to trade Tatar, we have to make sure we're getting the best player (not necessarily best right now, but at least projects to be the best in the long run) in the deal. There is no utility in trading Tatar for a grab bag of players, prospects, and/or picks who all project to wind up somewhere in the middle of the lineup. Stockpiling so-so and above-average depth is the last thing we need.
I would MUCH rather trade Tatar in a one-for-one kind of deal, or package Tatar with other assets to pick up a legit young (or at least youngish) star or top-tier prospect. If Tatar is the most valuable single asset supplied by either team in the deal, Detroit will lose the trade. |
