My top targets (based on rumors)

1. Faksa (just signed a new deal, probably not looking to move him but is young...would be average cost to acquire ... has a great cap hit and plenty of upside)
2. Staal (of course, if this found a way to work out with even the slightest bit of salary retention, I think he's the ideal fit)
3. Athanasiou (just intriguing with that speed and the production last season, I think he'd be an excellent fit)
4. Little (does WPG do trades?)
5. Bozak (if the price is cheap enough for a rental)
6. Duchene (obviously would be higher on list if not for acquisition cost, robbing peter to pay paul most likely)

It makes zero sense from Carolina's position to trade him.

None.

"Hey, he's a key piece to a rapidly improving franchise, better trade him!"

Except if they get Duch. Then they will be over their internal cap of $20.

Gunnar, whats with all the Kessel angst? Is this really fall out from the MM broadcast from the other day? He stirred poop and now the media is eating it up like its Caviar. WTF?

I get that Kessel may be difficult, but the Pens lose Tocchet and all of a sudden Phil is completely impossible to keep?[/img]

If Faksa could be had for Maatta I would be all over it. Faksa is moving up the depth chart and could even be the #2 center in Dallas this year. I have watched this kid since I drafted him and he is coming of age. He is strong as a bull and has a huge upside. I would love to see him in Pittsburg.

I think Phil could be the MVP of the finals and win 5 cups in a row and he would still here this nonsense. I love Phil Kessel and he can play on my team anyday and get the credit he is due. I honestly do not know why he gets the bad raps!

I would straight up to do Faksa for Maatta but I don't think Dallas would bite on that. Considering Spezza is aging and Hanzal is perpetually on the shelf, I don't think Dallas should be in a hurry to move him.

The collective sexiness of the team would go down significantly.

Franzen is LTIR and that gives them back 3.9 mill more to the current cap. Not that this solves all there cap problems but it gives them a chance with 6.1 mill in cap space for Tatar and Anthanasiou still to sign. I think its more likely they trade one of there 9 Dman on there NHL roster at a major discount for cap space then move a young talent like Anthanasiou... They are currently trying to rebuild, so why trade a 22 year old Center who has shown good progression and NHL caliber speed.

Any other UFAs or guys from the KHL that could help at center for the Pens? I did see a name thrown around from the KHL, but he would be more of a 4C that could move up.

Stephane Da Costa played for Ottawa a few years ago, and is a UFA from the KHL the last few years. He plays center and is 27.

He has good hands and some speed but is only 5'11". He had 132 points in 3 seasons in the AHL, Binghamton Senators. He only has 7G and 4A in limited NHL games with the Senators between 2012-2014.

He has 124 points in the KHL in the last 3 years.

Darren Dreger on Twitter: Multiple teams have called on Stephane Da Costa. He 100% intends on playing in the NHL this season.

Madden also said Sundqvist was part of the future plans for the Pens and they would protect him in the expansion draft because he was so vital to the future.

If the Wings were dumb enough to trade Athanasiou then GMJR would've taken it already.

I highly doubt that will happen. Little has been replaced as the 2C by Lowry and I think Copp could step into the 3C role for them (or Perreault, if need be). The Jets are short on LWs (which is why I don't think they want to trade Perreault and his reasonable 4 year $4.1 mil contract).

I would prefer Perreault over Little, but I don't know that JR wants to be tied down to him for 4 years (even it is a pretty good contract for what he provides). Pens are short on LWs, too, so his versatility would be very beneficial.
