Jan Levine: Predicting Mika Zibanejad's next contract
New York's remaining RFA

A nice 5 year deal would take him to age 29. That'd be good for the Rangers. Lock him up through his prime years . It's also good for him because then he'd be able to cash in on the open market as a UFA or demand big $$$ from the Rangers. Win-win if you ask me.

yes, agreed.

5x5 would be a great contract. I don't think Galchenyuk is enough of a center to be a true comparable. For Rangers fans, you shouldn't be wanting anything less than 5 years IMO

I'd like to see a 5 year deal at something around $5M per season. Going above that raises the potential for (and pressure of) not living up to it rather quickly. But, from what we've seen and expect, he is due a considerable raise.
Mostly, I want Zib to be happy with the contract, because his importance to the team for the upcoming season cannot be overstated.

Thanks Jan.
The numbers on the graphs didn't show up on the blog.
Gorton might have a little leverage since Zib was injured last year and took a while to round into form. I would like a 5 year deal for between 4-5 mil, probably going to be closer to 5 mil. Please no NTC!

Quote not working, but at 5 per? Absolutely. Even if by the last 2 years he starts to slow down a bit he could slide down to the 3C and a 5 million cap hit in 6-7 years won't kill us. The last year he'd be 31 until end of the season. Playoffs he would turn 32.

Disagree ...heavy lifting ..we are an imbalanced team with too many top D men and not enuff minutes and not enuff centers and only a trade will upgrade or lot
no FA 's are worth the lateral move
Trade : from the over stocked D ..remember not one prospect is in top 7 as of now...
Centers ..Zbad is perfect ro 4 yr 20 mill 4- 4.5 5.5. 6..... move on ...

J T 's plan on moving to center ? I dont see the 2 way game needed or the abilkity
to shut down top opposition..just a very creative guy who gets caught to many times in bad ice or missing the play?

Wasnt it 1 yr anniversary when Brass went north & Zbad found the Mecca

wouldnt that be a nice surprise ...
I willfully extend my 7/15 deadline to the 22 nd..cmon Gorts dont make a liar outta me !!!

Mac & S kirrk... #1 pair ... next 3- 4yrss should get 25 min + PP time
Shey ..potential top pair guy could fetch a top center in retd.
will not play enufff to fulfill his game....
Staal : Ideal candidate to trade ... ex #1 pick vet savvy & skill
still has game to support a Shey type D player (Toronto needs vet D help )
Holden same as Staal but may not garner top retd ...

Duchene is a potential top center you may get for the right guy ( Shey )

question.... Duchene = Shey as a return on our Shet ?

I'm all in for that deal ,not sure of the details of who adds what to round it out

NOT ..just factoring in ..global warming ramifications ... like weather days on a construct site
I dont want Gorts feeling his gorts rise up into his throat as the deadline looms for NYR bloggers....did i say my deadline was OUR deadline
at least thats what i passed on to our heirarchy in a heavy letter

Staal is making 5.7 until he's 34. Zib would take him to 31. A 5 year deal put us in a terrible spot, at 29 he'll be up for a new contract at 3-5 years. That's what I want to avoid. A 7 year deal until he's 31? Done.

I want absolutely nothing to do with Duchene.
