Could they take a risk on a guy like Pokka?

Only thing I'd want out of Chicago is Jokijarju. I'd even throw in Moore if they wanted him, not sure why they would, but someone wanted Emellin, so you never know. And eat 50% of Kovalchuk's salary. And take back Hossa. Remember Chicago can't put him on LTIR until day two of the season.

I think Trading Hossa and his 6 million cap hit to reach the cap floor along with some picks and maybe a prospects would be enough to get Kovy. Then the Hawks sign him to 30 mill for 5 seasons something like that , could work. imagin that top 6!

Just spitballing. I'm sure Winnipeg would like to take a step forward and although he may not play well with Laine, Kovy would certainly help. How about sending him there for Logan Stanley+?

The picks and prospects should not be throwaways in this trade. Your picks are low and that's a hefty salary to dump. Pay up, bud.

You can't say that and then name one of the worst picks of last year's draft as a potential return. I want nothing to do with Stanley.

Though Shero has had a good off-season, it appears that this Kovalchuk situation has been mishandled. If Kovalchuk returns to the K and then decides to come back next year, the Devils get nothing.

The Devils would have been better suited to name their price for Kovalchuk and traded his rights to the team that met it. Just my thoughts....

He was picked higher than he should've been, no doubt, but he is still 6'7 with some undeniable talent. The plus in that trade wouldn't be completely negligible.

He was not worth a first round pick, but I don't think Kovy will get you anything equivalent to a first round pick either.

Also, the difference is Hossa doesn't play. He's dead weight. It becomes a trade for Kovy's production and not salary which should theoretically increase his value.

Who's to say that's not what they're doing? Too early to pass judgement like that

Mishandled? They aren't losing anything if he goes back. The only things that can happen are they gain some assets or nothing happens as if this whole saga never happened. Anything they gain from this are free assets. No downside to anything that happens in this situation.

The value is great, but the Devils do have somewhat of a window here. Schneider isn't getting younger. Neither are Greene or Zajac. A more immediate solution would be preferred.

Hawks fans being hawks fans. They think they can just give their poop players to other teams in fake trades and they think it's more then what they should be giving up. Kovy wo t be in a hawks uni anytime soon.

Answered your own question Todd. Look at WPG. Hawks don't have top-4 D to trade and their picks are typically mid-20's+.

Try LA perhaps for the picks. They'll be a lottery team.
