Weren't there rumors of a Niemi buyout? I would love to see Niemi in a jets jersey... IMO I think it could be likely since Chevy was with blackhawks at the time with Niemi

With Nogier and Poolman RH shots in the system. Postma will not be re-signed.
Melchiori and Stewart are the odd men out on the left side. I doubt Chevy sign's any defencemen unless someone cheap falls into his lap.

we will sign only a goalie IMHO. Rumor has it it's Elliot on July 1

Jake Muzzin 28 years old, and Alec Martinez 29 years old are top 2-4 D-men, both Left Handed

LA Kings have nothing in the prospect cupboard....Adrian Kemke is their 'stud' in the system and he is borderline at this point in his development

Both D-Men make $4 per and are signed for 3 years (Muzzin) and 4 (Martinez).

Why the hell would we not go after one of them?

Trade next years' first we have made 5 first round picks in 3 years, trade Raslovic, Conner, somebody, something..... It solidifies your D!!!!!

Also , I predict that Brendan Lemieux will make a case for a roster spot

Buyout yes. No rumor there.
What else isn't a rumor is that he sucks.

Tanev may be the most useless player to lace up the skates last year.
He should never see the ice in the NHL again.

I think Stuart gets told by mgmt that they want to keep him in the organization after he retires and he should go help the young kids on the Moose out this year.

Isn't Poolman a left shot?

Whoops He's RHD but I think he plays offside. We shall see and pray

I'd be ok with Kulikov on the 3rd pairing. I'm not sure I understand the Stuart comparison as they are nothing alike. He was injured most of last Year, so I'd say his numbers get thrown out. I think there's some upside there and it's worth the chance to have him re-establish himself.

It's weird i thought the Jets at the beginning of last season would be in last year's playoffs! When you look at that line up their's not really any holes? So injuries, coach, goaltending? Ikd But hopefully a healthy roster and free agent /prospect and consistency in net? can get them in? Best of luck with the rest of the offseason

But I thought Tanev was a top 10 dman and worth the 3rd oa?...and agree on Stuart! player development? possibly defensive coach? smart move to surround your prospects with hard working quality people!

Elliot better than Mason, lol That is so irresponsible! Try playing goal in the trainwreck of a disaster in Philly. Mason in Minnesota say in stead of Dubnyk would be better results than Dubnyk. Dubnyk in Philly would be waived by xmas. Just ask Bobrovsky, Bryzgalov and Mason himself would turn down 10 mil to go back to that jungle in Philly.

All they need is a Steve Mason in goal and the addition of more dman, the top six forwards are pretty smoking hot.

Elliott will likely be signed but none of the free agents will make a significant difference. I would pass and look at a trade or within. Save the money for next year contracts.

I am really interested in bringing Kulikov in as a reclamation project. I remember that just 2 years ago, Florida was really high on him.

I also think we should look at Yakupov on a one year show me deal. While we are at it, I think Bryan Little needs to be evaluated. He's going to be 31 at the end of his deal and as the NHL has proven its turning more into a youthful game.

Just some Ultimate thoughts....

Holes in that lineup posted in the article...:

3rd line Center - Lowry's game is better suited for a shutdown 4th line role than to Center a scoring line which is what the jets 3rd line should be imo if they are going to be a playoff team and serious contender. I don't have much faith in Maurice but actually think he will lean in this direction with the way the lineup was shaping up last year before Littles injury in gm1. I don't see them signing a FA center due to all the youth and their impending cap crunch in a year or two, more likely give copp/petan/roslovic a chance to take it and if they fail address this at the trade deadline with an expiring contract.

Top 6 winger - No problem with Perrault in the top 6, but he'd probably be more valuable alongside my hypothetical young 3rd line center and Armia. That means Connor gets a chance to start in the top 6, any defensive liability he may be can be hidden on a line with little and wheeler.

6th Defensman (Chariot) - played well 2 years ago with buff. Fell off last year when forced to carry/co-carry his D-pairing. Hard to have faith he is anymore than a good 7th Dman. So who plays on the bottom pair? Lots of talk today of all the ufa's the jets are interested in, most notably alzner. Not sure we can afford to give him a contract with the term he'd likely want unless chevy plans to let Toby walk next year or buyout Myers. Regardless Poolmans age, performance in college, ability to play R/L D suggest he's more than capable, but then we get to the last hole..

Defense injury bug - would be pretty irresponsible not to plan for at least one of the top 6 to be out basically all year. The top 5 last year missed about 115 games last year so 82 would be an improvement. Would be nice to grab a bottom 6 pairing ufa to be the 7th D, Chariot 8. Stuart moose along with the GST reunion.
