Definitely seems like the caps panicked. This will haunt then 5 out of the 8 years |

More like 8 when they realize they now have to choose between Burakovsky and Orlov. |

I like Oshie and I might be on board with the salary on a 3 or 4 year deal...maybe. But 8 years?! No way |

Brutal deal.

Trading a young roster forward? We need one or two.
We could give you a cheap backup goalie and pay half the salary. Plus we got 3 bottom bottom pair defenders and young roster forwards. |

Caps RFA's have to licking their chops - if Oshie gets this - they must be giddy over what they have coming -
Really need to hear an explanation of this deal - cause I didn't see anyone else giving him remotely this kind of term and $ -
Makes the Russell deal look good by comparison .... just kidding |

Feels like a deal of desperation honestly. Not sure the Caps could afford to lose so much of their roster in one off season. |

This deal is going to hurt them. Even if they thought Oshie was worth holding onto for a few years....EIGHT YEARS! EIGHT! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? He's in his 30's ffs! |

yeah, I'm sure BM signed Oshie without knowing if he'd sign his RFAs or not. |

I like the dollars. Not the term. I actually believe oshie would have made more dollars in the free agent market. Even on a seven year term. He took a cut for term. 6m is hyperbolic for your purposes and it's a little less.
I appreciate your jagr and Thornton allusion. These are generational players in the ilk of McDavid, Matthews, Laine, shiefle(yes) and eichel of our generation.
Not everyone is looking ahead Tanner, they want to win now. Oshie is a good player. Ladd and okoposo got similar and they are lesser players. Although I would want the latter on my team as well. It won't hurt them for 2-3 years and then it will. Ovechkin is their lifeblood and they are willing to try their best around him. They have no choice and they know their RFAS are going to give them a discount.
Good piece though. It does hurt this team long term. Just remember this is a win today team. |

Bad contract, but he isn't giving fringe NHL'rs 5 mil/yr contracts. So..no. |

James Tanner: What Are the Capitals Thinking?
Signing T J Oshie was a bad move. - james_tanner1
Jimmy you should know, they are thinking that there will be another lockout in 4 years when Oshie is 35, and there will be get out of jail free cards handed out in the form of buyouts. Short of that I have it on good authority that Oshie will develop an allergic reaction to his helmet right around when he turns 36 and won't have to play or get bought out. |

Nice player but ... damn! |
