Ben Case: GMRF Acquires TVR - How Does This Shake Up Canes Blueline? GMRF struck early once the freeze lifted and acquired Trevor Van Riemsdyk (TVR) from the Golden Knights. The price wasn’t that high either, as GMRF sent the Golden Knights his lowest of three second round picks, the 62nd overall pick in the upcoming draft. GMRF also received a seventh-round pick in the deal too.

I see Fluery getting the shot next year. What do you think?

Slavin-Pesce
Hanafin-Faulk
Fluery-TVR

Dahlbeck

Then Murphy is moved in a change of scenery deal.

As far as options for forwards, if GMRF sticks to his word, we would have to go away from the current names floating around. Colorado, Montreal, and NYR want a roster defender in return.

I put this list on the Canes message board as potential names from teams who may take prospects:
Centers:
Stastny- they need cap space. He should be the cheapest to acquire based on past performances and how much he is paid. Only one year left so low risk.
Carter- mentioned him before
Schenn- PHI may need a roster spot for their number 2 pick and cap space for their needs. LV only taking bellemore kind of hurt Philly.
Big Joe- UFA so won't cost us more than money

Wingers:
Oshie- UFA
Marleau- UFA

Only gives a + 10 in goals. We need more than that to be playoff competitive.

I thought so too. I was very pleased with it. Looking at the trade path, they flipped Hainsey for TVR. Not bad at all.

You put Duchene and Skinner together on the same line and I guarantee each will get 30+ goals a season.

It wouldn't appear that the Hurricanes are looking to move a top four. Pierre LeBrun tweeted around 2 this afternoon that they didn't want to use any of their top 7 D for an offensive upgrade. GMRF apparently wants to use prospects and picks.

Nothing is set in stone, but I wrote about a week ago how moving a top-four D is not an option. Then again, that was before TVR acquisition.

I'd love to see a trade for Neal or Marchessault with LVGK. Add that to signing Big Joe and this team just got a lot more exciting.

I've heard that Fleury made great strides this year and really looks ready for an NHL role. I don't see GMRF letting the younger guys up this year though for financial reasons. Keeping Bean, Fleury, Carrick and McKoewn off the NHL means that they will have less time in it when they negotiate next deal. This most likely keeps their cost down without hurting trade value yet.

I think I prefer trying to sign Big Joe over trading a core D for Duchene. Add that to acquiring a third line LW.

Skinner - Big Joe - Lindholm

Aho - Rask - TT

Neal - Staal - Stempniak

McGinn/PDG - Ryan - Nordstrom

I doubt LV moves forwards unless they stop giving away the defenders they drafted. A 5th rounder 2 years from now? Really?

I would put big joe on Skins and Aho's line. Just tell joe to stand in front of the net and clean up the rebounds.

2. Skinner had 37 this year so, we still stand at + 10

I really just want a reason to get one of those new CAR jerseys and I want Tatar far away from that mess in DET.

Detroit could get back in track if they trade a goalie for a decent return.use the 12 million in cap to re-sign Tatar and get another winger. Use the salary dumping ground that is Arizona.

They could give one of the overpaid forwards and a young Dman to LV for a decently cheap defender like Miller. Then keep using that space for scoring.

Add Duchene / Landskog and retool the 4th line and the Canes are done!

Goalie market is not seller friendly and trading Mrazek would be a mistake imo.

After signing Tatar, Ouellet, and Athanasiou they will have mayber $4M in space and they will have a pretty bad roster.

Well you could move Howard, if howard would accept, to Arizona. They need 20 million to get to the floor.

I haven't seen much in the line of Detroit considering trading Tatar though.

I don't think it is too likely either, but I do think could possible for some teams. Rumors have LVGK signing Dadonov which would make the RW pretty deep: Marchessault, Perron, Thorburn. If they get Gusev to sign they will be good down the middle too: Skiprachyov, Gusev, Eaken, Lindberg, Bellemare. LW looks a little weaker with Smith, Haula, and Pulkkinen.

Adding McGinn/PDG and a pick for Neal might be a good move for them to add cap space and LW depth. I don't think it's 100% crazy though looking at how they are at $71M and still have some guys to sign. Crazy to think the new expansion team is second currently in cap spending behind Chicago. Then again, once they move 1-2 more D they should free up $8-10M.

I think moving Howard to Coyotes would be tough. They seem to be happy with Domingue and Johnson for next year. They also acquired a good goalie prospect from Flyers and signed Hunter Miska.

Perhaps someone like Vancouver or Florida (Maybe WPG) would be interested if they don't plan to bring Miller or Luongo back. Even that though I don't see happening probably. At 33, going on 34 around the trade deadline, and a $5M+ deal, and a modified 10 team NTC, I think Detroit is going to have to wait him out the next two years.

My big question with Tatar is would he be willing/happy to play third line role with Staal? He would definitely make the Hurricanes much stronger though their top 9.
