Not sure where to begin. Enough with the Capitals and the unlucky nonsense. That's complete BS. Hard to know what was attempted and what was offered in order to call out the GM on this. |

Now we can only hope that Super GM Jim Rutherford can swing... say.... Our 2017 first, Hagelin, and Pouliot to Vegas for Schmidt..... Probably a pipe dream... but like you said it's McPhee so it's possible. |

They say Vegas was asking a lot to sway their choices.
How high a price should a The caps GM have payed to protect their player? |

I don't know, but pretty high. A 2018 1st probably gets it done, how could it not? |

Caps pick might be pretty low. Is it possible that Vegas preferred Schmidt over the late first round pick. With just a little imagination you can see that being the case. |

How come you aren't all over the fake Hossa retirement where his contract manages to circumvent the cap twice?
I am not so sure the Knights made all terrible selections. You argued they should try to be bad and try and draft so as to turn their draft into prospects. They kind of did that while grabbing some good players and trying to create a culture. |

I definitely see your point. Schmidt might be the best guy they got and the Knights may have been adamant about keeping him.
Its really impossible to say and all I'm doing is making a slightly educated guess based off the trades and trade rumours we know about, how good I think Schmidt is, etc.
For all I know, McPhee was pumped to get him and just refused to deal. Or he thinks he can flip Schmidt to someone once the market gets set.
All I am saying is that the Caps couldn't really afford to lose another good defensemen. |

We don't have a 1st round pick. Our hands were tied. I mentioned this before but I would have exposed Lars Eller and Nisk. Lars only has a year left. Nisk has a high contract. Nisk is really good. But I think schmidts a steal. You hope they go after Lars. Lots of work now. Maybe pkg grub orpik for Methot? |

Ha, that Hossa thing is hilarious and so, so sketchy. But then again, it's so crazy it might actually be true - and probably is, I mean, the Hawks have to know how it looks, so if it wasn't true it'd be so ballsy I'd have to respect it.
But if I blog about it, it's just five hundred people telling me I hate the Hawks and am so dumb and stupid and etc. I might do it anyways actually hahaha
As to Vegas, yeah, they should be bad, but if they made less old-school picks I think they could have built a team that would be better and thus give them more leverage later to trade guys for value.
Also, the Ducks exposed Vatanen and Manson and all that Vegas got was Theodore? I think they'd have been better off just taking Manson and flipping him. |

I don't think Methot is any better than Alzner to be honest, he's pretty bad. If you leave Niskanen unprotected he's gone for sure, I don't see how they could risk him for Schmidt, as much as I like him. Definitely lots of work to do interesting to see where it goes. |

No that's not really all you're saying. You called the Caps GM out for a lack of imagination and then posted that a 2018 first round.pick should get it done.

Yep. So you potentially lose a first, another asset, to not take Schmidt, then the other roster player.
Pretty steep. |

why the hate for McPhee? core of this Capitals team is still his. i'll never understand the Forsberg trade but it seems like he put and left Washington in a great spot. |

He picked Ovechkin and Backstrom with top picks..I'm not saying he is terrible, but he is definitely part of the 60 year old guys club and he gets to be the GM of Vegas just because he once used to be a GM - he's got old-school tendencies and views and I don't see how a guy like him can be successful in today's NHL, but I guess we'll see,. |

Most GMs make a horrible deal at some point. Look at Chairelli. He has many terrible trades and signings in his history. Now he was considered as a GM of year candidate. Oilers got as far as the Caps this year. |

Expose Niskanen? (frank) off with that.
Methot is garbage. |
