His plan is losing a great player. There was no way out of it for Mn and Ana. Vegas will ask for 1st to select another player, and they will still lose Scandella or another pretty solid forward.
Sometimes you get unlucky. |

I wouldn't call protecting Vermette or Bieksa unlucky
Either way...we can't really make a decision until we know what happens, because there is without a doubt some deals going down |

I don't find this to be a lack of a plan...
Say they trade Brodin for Galenchyuk, you now have to protect him and expose another forward in addition to Staal...but get to keep your 3 D...say LV tells MN now they will take Scandella and you just lost 2 of your top 4/5 defensemen depending on how high you rate Scandella.
Of course LV says, oh we will take a forward instead of Scandella if you give a a 1st round pick, and you pretty much have to comply or you lose your strength in defense...which has carried this team for the past few years.
So then they get Zucker and a 1st round pick.
I think if you traded Brodin or Dumba, you lost all leverage talking to LV. |

Well then why wouldn't he trade Dumba to Dallas for the #3 overall & maybe a draft exempt prospect as opposed to losing him for nothing. That#3 could be parlayed into a decent roster piece at the draft if you don't want it. |

For Anaheim there was. It didn't come to that as Murray has a deal in place with McPhee.
I can also see a scenario where Vatanen is selected by Vegas, but then traded back to the Ducks. That couldn't happen until Jan. 1, which is when Vats is supposed to be able to return. We'll know Wednesday.

Not to reply for someone else but he made that clear. You trade one d for something else you lose other d. Now team has two d gone. This year third overall pick not projected to play in NHL right away. Losing someone sucks but ALL owners agreed to this as a way to get their share of 500 mil. Also maybe fletch had a deal in place. Kinda need to wait until this summer plays out. |

Yes, exactly. The number 3 pick could be parley to get something better....I doubt Dallas ever really offered it to MN for Dumba in the first place....just like Brodin to Boston talk had no substance to it. |

What Vegas has told teams that surrender a 1st and you can keep your team together! Vegas has to pick someone! just not a player that Minnesota wants to keep themselves,so Minnesota has lost next year 1st pick! But they probably would of traded anyways! 20th 30ish? So not the end of the world considering keeping one of the top three in the nhl defence cores imho |

They've told some teams they will accept a first this year in exchange for not selecting certain players. We have no idea if they will accept firsts next year, or if they will accept just a first from the Wild. I'm guessing if Vegas was willing to take a 2018 first in exchange for not selecting Dumba, Scandella, or Staal; that would already be done and leaked like all the other deals. |

How on earth were the Wild supposed to trade Brodin for Galchenyuk once the trade freeze kicked in prior to the expansion draft. This post makes no sense.
Fletcher was definitely swimming naked, and the tide has gone out...
Wild and Islanders are looking like the dunces of this expansion draft, with Panthers and Ducks in the conversation, but we'll have a lot more clarity by end of Wednesday... |
