Chris Neil is one of those players you absolutely hate seeing on the other bench (or ice) but you'd LOVE to have him on your own team. Ulf Samuelsson comes to mind.
Even though Neil's style of game has been definitely fading more recently, I was worried we might still see him dress for the series against the Sens. Honestly, I was glad he sat in the press box.
Who knows... maybe he could've made a difference in that series. But in the meantime, maybe he at least told Melnyk while he was sitting up there that Sid quit whining to the refs almost two years ago. Oh, and guys almost get their fingers chopped off every single game!
Good luck Chris Neil ! |

Chis Neil. Just retire with dignity for God's sake - surely you have a few millions in the bank by now so you shouldn't need the money. At best he'll be offered $5-600,000 to wallow on a fourth line somewhere or be sent to the minors. Does he really want to tarnish his reputation and status as a Sen for that? Dumb.
I'm really growing to despise this expansion draft process more and more as time goes by. LV should not be allowed to take core players from other teams just to turn around and work deals to better themselves. It's BS. There should be a rule that the selected players have to stay on the expansion roster for a least 2-3 years. How are going we to feel if they take Methot or Ryan or Smith even and dump them in some $hithole market just so they can get some pieces they want. Sux. |

You're welcome... I suppose...?
I just wish the refs would call the games correctly, for all.
The Sens are my 2nd favorite team, btw.

Considering you may lose Methot to vegas (gallant likes big defensemen), I'm not sure it's the smartest move. |

Terrible comparison.
Neil was a poop disturber. A damn good one.
Samuelsson was a P.O.S. He was more than dirty - he was dangerous.
I always respected Neil.
I never respected Sammy Wilson.
And I sure as frank never wanted Samuelsson on my team. I wanted him out of the league. |

thought on Chris Neil;
- should have his jersey retired
- is amazing in the community
- 2500 PIMs, zero suspensions
and finally....
will play for Pittsburg next year and win the cup!!!

The main reason for trading Phaneuf would be to protect Methot. |

You think he gets a contract with another club?
I'd say he's done. No room in the game for his type anymore it seems. Kinda a better version of Prust. |

Ah i see, I wonder how little of a package Ottawa will accept to move Phaneuf then? |

I thought Phaneuf was Ottawa's best Dman in the first playoff round against Boston. He was really good in his own end, pounded Boston forwards and sco |

Really, that's your take?!
You're going to call a guy an "idiot" because he wants to try to keep doing the only thing he has ever wanted to do and ever known in his life.
If only we could all be as perfect as you. |

I completely agree that Phaneuf had a great playoff. And for that reason his trade value will never be higher. In fact, with his contract this may be the one and only window Ottawa has to trade him if they want to go in that direction.
I love how he played but my guess is in a year or two the Sens will be dying to be out of that contract. For that reason I hope Dorion is listening carefully to all offers. |

You're missing one thing though, other teams know what predicament Ottawa is in in terms of who to protect, so his value takes a hit even after the good playoff showing. |

For sure other GMs know Ottawa is dealing from a weak position. My point is there is trade interest in Phaneuf that may not ever be there again.
So if Ottawa wants to unload that contract to provide future flexibility, the time is now. |

That's a little harsh, but I guess 'idiot' was too. I changed it to just 'dumb.
He's 36 and can't play hockey at the NHL level any more. That's life. I played soccer 4-5 nights a week in my 30's until I dislocated a knee two years in a row. No more soccer. That's life. Don't get me wrong, I love Neil, his career and everything he brought to the club over the years, but yes that's my take. He should retire a Sen and be a hero. Going elsewhere to get a couple more years on a bench will severely diminish his stature IMO.

So many great Sens moments involve Chris Neil. He is one of the greatest Senators to date. His resiliency and momentum swinging plays have been a pleasure to watch. He's a true professional and heart and soul guy.
I don't know why he would want to play another year elsewhere. His body and brain have taken a pounding for years. Hang them up and enjoy your life as a millionaire! |

I agree. Take the player and keep him. Simple. All these potential side deals after the fact seem to be unnecessary and unfair. |
