Todd,

Do you get any insight into which way they might be leaning? As a Flyers fan I am curious who falls to us. i know Shero has spoken about both. Me personally I think they take hishier, just because I think he brings more dynamic offensive ability.

I am actually hoping for Patrick for the Flyers

I'm actually perfectly ok with that. I saw something where Friedman speculated that maybe the Stars could move the 3rd overall for Vatanen. He questioned whether that would be enough from the stars to pry him away. Sami Vatanen is a nice player, but if that's what the prices are, I'm out.

Frankly, none of the options out there are that tempting to me. Vatanen, Dumba, Brodin, Fowler. All of them are improvements, but in NJ, all will still be playing way above their heads and they're clearly going to be really expensive to pry away. This is why overpaying Shattenkirk is the best option. Hopefully, Kovalchuk can be traded for some team's defensive prospect since the market for current NHL blue-liners is insane.

Does Trouba for the #1 pick make sense to Devils fans?

I think they may be leaning towards Hischier but I could be wrong. It's really hard to say.

Definitely worth talking about. I'd probably do it. I don't get why the Jets would though.

Like I said, I won't be disappointed if they don't if the market is that the 3rd overall pick might not be enough for Sami Vatanen.

It would make sense for the Jets having Schiefele and Patrick 1-2 down the middle for a decade.
We could pkg. Roslivic (center) and something else to replace Trouba.

Pure Value wise it should . Troubas more of a sure thing. And has a similar ceiling probably.

I dunno what their money sitch is, but that cheap cost control can't be totally understated In value though. Especially in relation to trouba who seems to want huge dollars asap

If he was signed longer than just next season I'd be more inclined to say yes.

Makes no sense for the Jets, they have Scheifele and Little as 1-2, defense and goaltending is their biggest issue, not forwards.

Chevy would never get another job if he made that trade.

With the high profile Dmen potentially being available due to cap restraints/expansion draft, I do not think it would take alot to get these men, seeing as their current teams have their backs against the wall. We can still nab a Vat for less because of this or those teams can lose out big time.

So the last time the #1 pick was traded was 03 (possibly best draft ever)..FLA also gave up their 3rd Rd pick and got the #3 overall, PITs 2nd rounder, and Mikael Samuelsson (27 yrs old, not established at that point/became solid 3rd liner for 6-7 yrs )

I don't see Dallas or COL wanting to trade down since they both need defensemen and can get them there or even further down in the draft...that leaves VAN at 5 and if we make that trade we are taking the risk of not even being able to pick Makar/Heineken...not worth it but if we did I'd want 5th OA, Boeser++

I'm firmly in the keep the first overall pick. Regardless of what's offered, this is a rare opportunity and the Devils could use the excitement.

Also, I think the problem with the D is as much systemic as it is personnel.

Pittsburgh just won the Stanley Cup with really nobody that impressive on D. Last year they did it with a guy name Lovejoy playing big minutes. Just saying. We have cap space and lots of picks to play with to try and address this problem from a personnel standpoint. Beg Scott Stevens to come back and try to land some help without losing the #1 pick overall.

My god you make seem like Patrick is such a lesser talent. Patrick is the more established and overall better hockey player. There is a reason why he was the consensus #1 for so long. This other guy is just a flashy player who is still underweight for the NHL and trust me will be injured his first year after one big hit. The highlight goals you see on you tube ain't going to fly in the NHL cause you cant make those moves on NHL d-men. Plus Patrick was the way better shot hands down. He could hit a penny on the post.

1. I don't care about established and better hockey player is your opinion.
2. He was the consensus number 1 in the past, that doesn't mean he still should be. Ryan Kujawinski was a consensus first round pick at the start of his draft year. Sean Couturier was a consensus 1st OA at the start of his draft year.
3. Hischier isn't just flash, he's a great two-way player.
4. He's 18, he can put on weight, easily enough. He doesn't even need to put on that much weight. Plenty of guys play at under 200 lbs.
5. Why should anyone trust you?
6. Yes, you can make those moves on NHL dmen.
7. Patrick does have the better shot, no one can deny that.
