I saw Dave Isaac tweet that he felt Hextall viewed July 1st as the Weal deadline, not expansion. You've repeated that here, which suggests that he isn't one of the 7 forwards they are going to protect.

Obviously they could still protect him, and they could give up a draft pick too, but this would suggest they protect Raffl, no?

Not all that amusing of a story, alas. I was putting together the Flyers A-to-Z biographies for the Flyers website and, at the time, was considering whether to add goalies who dressed as a backup but never played as well as position players who were called up but never dressed in a game. Ultimately decided to go only with those who actually played in a regular season and/or playoff game.

Even so, I enjoy the bios and stories on NHLbackups.

I think it is meant that since the ref blew the whistle because he couldn't see the loose puck behind Murray that the NHL rigged the game.
