Bill,

Do you think the Flyers make a move before the expansion draft with one of the players the risk losing, someone like Laughton?

Hextall likes competition in camp. Sure seems like he'll have that this year.

I think they will at the very least have discussions in that regard.

Game 6, 1987. Man, oh man, when JJ scored that goal I thought the roof was gonna come off for the second time!!! The Spectrum was rocking!!

Sadly, they still had to go play game 7.

Agreed. I can see perhaps Laughton, Cousins or maybe Raffl being dealt to a team that lacks forward depth. Or perhaps packaged with Manning and a pick or 2, to get a better Dman to protect than Manning or AMac.

I liked vecchionne in limited viewing. Decent on draws. He'll make the team imo prob at the expense of a matt read. Late in the season he and konecny combined on a turnover in their own zone that wound up in the back of the net. Pass from the wall to the middle on an attempted breakout that just seemed like a case of them not being on the same page, execution turnover. A breakout that all nhl teams will use. I just question how much patience hak will have with the young players or will he just reinsert VDV to throw the puck up the boards

I think people should be less worried about where vecchione might fit in and start wondering how read, cousins, Laughton fit into the picture

I'm not sure about Vecchionne one way or the other. It does appear Matt Read's time with the team could be over.

Vecchionne reminds me of vintage Matt Read. I think he could be a rock solid bottom 6er. Speed, skill, decent on draws. What's not to like about the kid. Give him a shot.

Reminder: Vecchionne got thrown onto the Flyers 75% into the season. No prior practices, camp, etc

Vecchione and Read? Kinda, sorta. They are roughly the same size though Vecc has a more solid build. Read is the better skater, especially back when he first broke in and he is the better defensive player. I think Vecc has more all around offensive skill, and is a natural center and a much better faceoff man. If you are looking for a best case scenario comparison for Vecchione, I would take a look at a guy like Mike Sillinger. He'll probably never be as good on faceoffs as Sillinger was (he was one of the best of all time), but his build and game are similar.

It's kind of crazy to think that we've got all these kids knocking on the door and yet we've still got 11(possibly 12) draft picks in this upcoming draft. 7 of which are in rounds 1-4.

Whoops! I didn't mean to flag this post -- was quoting! Sorry, HP!

Hopefully, one of those picks is going to LV to have them select a player the Flyers want to have go there. I'm all for picks and prospects, but there comes a time when you cash them in to do other things

Did I read/see correctly that we have 3 consecutive picks in the 4th round?

Especially when you have 10 or 11 picks. Although, I don't miss the drafts of not having a 1st and 2nd round pick.

Thanks for posting that video clip. It acts as a time machine.

I can't wait for the draft.

Granted, their highlight videos posted here have a bit of repetition, particularly Patrick's, but both are very encouraging.

It looks as though Nico seems to find the open spots in the greasy areas. Not a bad skill to have. With regard to his goal scoring, he reminds me a lot of Tim Kerr in that he throws the puck on net and it amazingly finds the opening.

I really like the water bottle popping shots off of the rush from Nolan, though. If he is able to generate space off the rush from his speed at the NHL level, I think I might find that skill more attractive.

Either way, things are looking pretty rosy.

I hated Gretzky for years, never appreciated his greatness cause his greatness boned us a coupla times.
We would have won game 7 with a healthy Tim Kerr.

Isn't saying VDV now more like beetlejuice...don't say his name 3 times or he will be back.

Best NHL hockey game I ever attended. Section I, Row 5 seat 1.

After JJ Daneault's goal and the win - everyone poured into the streets along with the Genesis concert across the street. It was total euphoria.

I don't know how my kid (who's 5 now) will ever see anything as great unless I start buying some tickets in Philly when all of these kids come together in the coming years.
