I think this has been touched on before, but is the consensus that if the Flyers wanted Dove-McFalls signed, he already would be?

As always, I don't watch these kids play so I don't have an opinion about whether he should or shouldn't be. Just know that he had the kind of size I like, even if he's a project

Yes, when the Flyers want to sign a prospect they typically do it well before his rights are set to expire. With Dove-McFalls, though, there are some extenuating circumstances. He had a serious knee injury a year ago, so 2015-16 was largely a lost season for him. This spring, his team went to the Memorial Cup. At least one Flyers scout still hopes he gets signed but it's a 50-50 proposition in terms of whether an ELC is offered. His ceiling is as an 11th or 12th forward if he reaches the NHL.

In watching him he looks like a very limited player thus far. I wouldn't mind if they passed

I watched him during the memorial cup. He played OK. I guess it depends on the contract limit for the Flyers as well and who else the Flyers are looking to get signed over the next month. I agree with Bill's assessment 100%. Projected 4 th line guy with best case scenario.
He did have his best year offensively this year. So at least he trended up.

I'll say this it's nice to see the organization at a point where we don't feel the need to sign every prospect. That we can pass and continue to draft and develop others. Not long ago we had to sign everyone cause we were so devoid of amateur talent.

Oh the mid 70's what a great time:

Vinyl and 8 track tapes
No answering machines
No Computers = No trolls/hacking
Microwave ovens hitting households
1 channel cable TV
Even before beepers!
No remote controls for changing channels.
Kicking the Russians ass in Hockey when that's what we used to do to the hammer and sickle!

That happens to every team. This forum will female dog about it but it's a part of the life cycle. Not everyone deserves these contracts at the time the team has to make a decision by.

It does happen to everyone, but usually it doesn't come back to bite anyone

It's such an odd thing. You can go through draft after draft after draft, and dozens upon dozens of guys never even get a sniff of the NHL who are picked

It's important, sure, but at some point it's just nothing to lose your minds over -- all prospects are suspects until they make it, and at some point, you do have to make the call on how you want your 50-man to look and move on from the players you don't think will make it, rightly or wrongly

The drafting of the laughtons and morins will test you for sure especially after not having first rounders for years. Thank god it's come to an end

I'm not down on Morin yet. Laughton has been a disappointment. Next year, if he is still here, is a big year for him

I have been one to be down on Laughton, but I do hope that the year down in A helped him grow as a player. I think I lost sight that he is still only 22 and could really be a play a big role in the team being better next year if the lessons translate.

Nothing wrong with the Morin pick in my useless opinion.

42 years, wow. I was 9 and they had just won their 2nd straight Cup. Never thought I'd be 51 and still waiting to see them win another.

It's possible, either way, next year is make or break for him. That being said, if another team has interest and are willing to give up something of value for him, I'd move him.

With 31 teams in the league, its not getting any easier for any one given team to win a cup. The Leafs havent won a cup since before I was born... you know.. we might be dead before the Flyers win a cup.

If I have any more cheery thoughts today, I'll be sure to let you know.

Thanks, you're a regular ray of sunshine. In all honesty though, the fact that the Leafs haven't won a Cup since the majority of their fan base was born and the fact that the Sabres have never won it, fills me with joy and happiness!

It is weird how fast time has flown and marking it with SC runs in each decade to keep us die hard! I'm just worried that I'm closer to a dirt nap then Cup.

The Flyers picked Morin knowing he was a long term project. The window isn't even close to closed on him.

It isn't quite closed on Laughton yet either. The time is approaching, however, where the Flyers need to make a decision on where he fits in the organization. For the sake of the team and the player.

I do believe in a package he can bring an upgrade of sorts somewhere.
