My problem wasn't so much signing Neuvirth. It was their choosing to sign him over Mason who I feel is the clearly better and more durable player.

Neuvirth did not justify getting a raise imo. Goalie market is flooded it seems.

Not sure why he got a 2 year extension. I also highly doubt they would have taken stolarz even if he didn't get hurt. Not enough of a track record and better options for Vegas.

Giving these multi year deals to marginal bottom end players is baffling really. These types are available every summer cheaper and on 1 year deals.

I would of been willing to give mason up to 4/20 comfortably and been content with our future. Even if neuvirth shows improvement our goaltending is in the bottom half of the league. For a team looking to sport a heavy rookie defense for the next few years I just don't see us being successful. Especially with his injury track. I still believe going out and getting a guy like grubauer who has a legitimate chance to be Martin Jones or Talbot is a better option at this point. Our prospects our top goalie prospects still have no guarantees but could be 5 years away from making am nhl difference.

I am also in the if they were resigning a goalie I'd have preferred Mason camp. Probably for 3 years at a slight raise. Neuvy's injury history scares me.

I'm just hoping he can stay healthy or that Hextall has a plan to still enact or else next year will be this year repeated and the natives are going to get seriously restless.

Mason has enough of a track record and built up enough good will for me that he should be given the reigns, at least as a bridge until some of their prospects become ready. He was a welcome addition and helped to stabilize the team's tenuous goaltending situation after the Bryz fiasco. For that, I am grateful.

My issue is we really need to get Stolie out of Allentown and make him the backup for the big club. He's reached the point where he should be in the NHL and seeing what he can do there. Another year of the Stolie/Lyon pairing in the AHL only makes it that Lyon is probably going to pass him by and you'll have to trade him soon with the pipeline about to accelerate an influx of talent soon.

We got at least another year before Hart and Sandstrom are AHL bound. But it looks like at least one if not both will be in the AHL for 2018-19.

As much as I prefer Mason as a fan and thought he earned a 2-3 year extension with his body of work as a Flyer, his year end interview added to what leads me to believe there is some sort of disconnect with him and management. Hextall choosing much less experienced goaltending for the World Championships is another tip off.

I don't think it's completely one sided either. Though it may have been his honest opinions, a lot of what he said in his candid year end presser came off as unprofessional.

Fairly certain Stolarz is still waivers exempt next year (which is why I think Hextall will sign another goalie). What is the reason you have him as waiver eligible?

Per Cap Friendly he has 1 year or 7 games left of eligiblity. So I think he's ok at least to start next year.

He did seem ticked off at Management and maybe even some teammates during those end of year interviews.

Well, it is actually 73 games of eligibility left, but the 1 year is what will matter.

He and Lyon are both exempt next season, but eligible the following season. There is a lot that needs to be decided over the next calendar year for the Flyers/Phantoms goalies

Fast forward one year

Neuvirth has a year left
Stolarz and Lyon are now waiver eligible
Hart and Sandstrom most likely coming to the Phantoms

5/4 and that is ignoring the other goalies in the organization

Re: Lyon & Stolarz
Neither players body of work has shown me enough to think that either will be an NHL starting goalie. I really doubt either one is ever more than an NHL backup. The real future of the Flyers goaltending lies with Sandstrom & Hart. By the time they are competing for a Cup, one of those 2 kids will likely be the starting goalie

I think they hope Sandstrom stays in Sweden for 2018-2019. Space him and Hart by a year.

No real problem, one of Lyon or Stolarz gets traded or waived and the other joins Neuvirth or some other vet if Neuvirth gets moved during the next year. The 2 kids compete with each other in the AHL

It's not like they have any goalie locked up on a big money, long term deal.

On one hand, I agree. On the other hand, neither has shown me anything to show they can't handle an NHL starting job because they haven't been given a legit chance.
