PK Subban for Habs management will be like World War II for the Germans.

He never happened.

So...if the Habs don't sign this guy before June 1st, they lose their rights and he's available for the draft again

I guess they now have the luxury of letting their draft picks walk.

I still say their lacks of picks in the second round for the last three drafts is hurting them big time

but yes, it's not looking good.

Calling Matt Duchene a number 2 centre is a bit disingenuous.

For the Habs he's a 1st line center, for most teams he's not...

Several team's 3rd line center might even be a 1st for the Habs...

Sounds like a terrible idea.

Eklund should have it as an e4 in no time.

he makes like.. $750,000-$1.25 mil too much for me but he is such a steady player. I know you're gunna say then why do you want to get rid of him? I just think its time for some new looks on the rangers and a shake up is needed but you wouldnt be getting a bad player by anymeans

Especially since the Habs have zero center depth. What is MB waiting to sign Tyler Boland? Also he better draft a slew of centers.

You're not wrong. He's a good, overpaid player.

But he's not the guy I'd spend 6,5M on and he's not one I'd acquire for significant assets....

Now I don't think the Rangers just want to give him away either so I don't see this happening.

MAYBE if we weren't already giving way too much to Plekanec....

Depends what NYR were asking for. If they are offering Stepan and a 2nd for Galchenyuk are you saying no? retained salary?

Habs are in an extremely tough spot right now. Basically pushed all of their chips into the middle last year with the Subban for Weber trade, but still clearly aren't built to compete for a cup. Two options:

1. Do everything you can to re-sign Radulov, and potentially bring in a dude like Kovalchuk. Trade Sergachev, Scherbak, Juulsen, etc, for established talent. Make one more push

2. Tear it apart. Trade Carey et al for draft picks and young players

Honestly, the second option is probably smarter and more realistic. But either way, I don't envy Bergevin
