Kinda strange that he's been too sick to play and suddenly when his contract is done he can play?
Makes me think the Flames forced him to stay on IR to save the cap space and maybe he was physically able to play, but they didn't want him to or something?
is that even a remote possibility? |

you don't find it oddly convenient that he was not able to play for like 3 years....this looked like a permanent injury and unable to play again...then his contract ends and he can suddenly play, but just not at the NHL level?

I don't find it odd that he wasn't cleared to play NHL calibre hockey and that another league is willing to take a risk. It surprises me that with his injury, he's willing to take the risk of re-injuring himself to play in a lesser league, but, that's his call. |

That's my take as well. He made a lot of money, why would anyone take that risk for a few hundred grand per year.Maybe he is going as a player/asst coach where he won't be playing a whole heck of a lot |

Again makes me think that if he's willing to play for minimal money maybe health is not actually an issue...that he was healthy enough to play, just not good enough to the Flames at that cap hit so the Flames claimed him to be unfit, allowing him to stay on the IR |

It's like Andrew Ferrence in Edmonton....is he really that injured he can't play? Or is he doing the team a real solid by staying on the IR?
The guy is out running all the time in his running groups after all |

Czechs are f**king crazy.
It happens with the Euro leagues. Ritchie Regehr with his "career ending concussions" went on to be a premier defenseman in the DEL.
Reinprecht was second in scoring last year in that same league.
PM Bouchard with his concussions is now one of the best in the Swiss league.
The list could go on but would anyone read it? |

Good luck to both and I wish them both the best.
I'm not sure about the Smid thing since as far as I know he was too injured to play in the NHL, so either the Flames kept him on the IR when he was healthy to save cap space, or he wasn't clear to play in the NHL and is taking a risk being able to play in a different league. Either way, we didn't need him anyway. Vey's loss hurts a bit more since he was giod in Stockton this year, but he's not a massive blow either. |

My question to you is, does it really matter? Flames were better with him not playing. The extra cap space was a bonus. |

Looks like 21.8 in cap space right now. Only 9 fwds and 4 D signed though. |

I know the ducks don't usually like to do business with us but based on this article it's believed they will have to expose one of Rickard Rakell or Jacob Silfverberg.
Expansion draft issues loom for Ducks after playoff exit (via http://thesco.re/theScore_App ) https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/1306522 - Yeah...Baby
The ducks have said there is zero chance they will be exposing those guys ...trades will be happening |

Both fit into our position of need. What would you give up to make this happen? |
