Big win tonight for the farm team. Griffins win 3-1 against a VERY good San Jose Barracuda team in San Jose. Fasten your seat belts... going to be a great series. Very impressed with Todd Nelson and coaching staff. Griffins have best PP in the league and excellent PK as well. Part of the reason they've dominated this year. Four good lines and huge scoring depth. And... team toughness. McEllrath has been a very good player for this team.

Nelson will be the next head coach of the Red Wings. The sooner the better.

We said that Blashill was going to be Babcock Lite with more emphasis on youth and skill.

We were wrong there.

Just goes to show you can't be fooled by AHL success. Still, Nelson has coached in the NHL before whereas Blashill hadn't. Nelson can't do any worse than Blashill. I don't think any coach could get less out of a team than he has.

I do agree with that assessment fully. Let Blashill (frank) this team over one more season. Trade someone Nyquist for a first and draft Svechnikov and Dahlin, fire Holland and Blashill. Bring back Stevie as our GM somehow and put Nelson as our HC and somehow entice Lidstrom to be our assistant coach on the defensive side.

It is my experience that what they do in the AHL.... expect half of it. That golden rule almost always is true. In the case of the Wings, the minors have always produced some decent 2nd scoring, but nothing elite.... I have never expected anything more.

The real reason things continued to go well for the Wings was getting elite rookies, that were play ready now and impacted the team immediately, if they went to the minors from the start... your best bet is a supporting role.

Blashill will say all the right things of course, but lets be honest this is a combination of too many poor loyalty contracts, lack of elite talent and inexperienced coaching decisions prior to puck drop.

nothing will change for the next 2-3yrs at least... so buckle up, it will be bumpy until some draft picks, again are top 6 players at a young age and right out of camp skipping the drop to the minors.

*for the record, Nelson will not do anything more with the Wings than Blashill does with the current structure -- they need a NHL guy, that can teach them to play in today's NHL, not a AHL guy with no experience, Nelson would be a move sideways imo.

Who gives a f^&*? I want the Wings to win a maximum of 30 games next season. The worse they are now, the better it is for the team's future. He wants the team to have a winning mentality and that's probably what you need even if you know you aren't going anywhere next year. I don't think they can afford for the younger players to lose motivation, or this thing is gonna take a tailspin.

If you're b!tching and moaning about a loser coach, it's not because you know jack-sh!t about anything, it's because you need something to whine about.

Bring on the tank.

Was at the game last night, not sure who draws it up but in the defensive zone they were rolling out a 1-1-2 on the PK. The first two goals San Jose scored were because the winger stayed planted, while the center was chasing from one D to the other. Plenty of time for a wind-up with a screen set up in front. Other than that it was good, slightly dirty puck from both teams.

Where did his post go? He's such a troll and really acts like the worst posters on HB. Didn't think the Wings had anything worse than slightly annoying (stargate and jurco_28) then this butthead shows up. Hot damn was I wrong.

Interesting... so you were at the game in San Jose. Yeah that quick 2-0 lead made me want to puke. Too many stupid penalties for the Griffins. San Jose has too good a power play for that. They are a very fast skating, good transition team. They also have a fast skating, mobile defense that likes to join the rush. That's what's given many other teams problems playing them. I'll be at the game Friday in Grand Rapids. Hope they make some adjustments to fix the PK too...

per Ansar Khan

The Detroit Red Wings have signed free-agent Czech defenseman Libor Sulak to a two-year entry-level contract.

Sulak, 23, is a 6-2, 207-pound left-shooting blueliner who spent the past two seasons playing for Orli Znojmo, a Czech team that competes in Eishockey Liga, the top professional league in Austria.

Sulak was fourth on the team with 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists) and a team-best plus-19 rating this past season. He added a club-leading three goals in four postseason games. He also made his debut with the Czech Republic men's national team, logging one assist in two games at the World Championship in France.

Guys.

So I was walking down to the Van Andel from my apartment this evening and who do I see? Dan Cleary. In a suit. Riding a motorized scooter east up Fulton, away from the arena.

Good omen?
