I would do JVR for Ellis, Predators would probably want more and at 5'10", Leafs would still need to add size on D in my opinion. For that reason, Manson would make more sense for me.

never liked the Goring helmet... although have to have mad respect for it.... as it has absolutely zero mirror appeal.

I was always a fan of the Stan Makita / Lanny MacDonald bucket (makes me laugh every time Lanny's in an old-timers game... same bucket).... and I absolutely loved the Dave Dunn (now there's one you'll have to look up).

Dave Dunn was pretty good, Peter Ihnacak was better. And his first interview was the funniest of all time. Went something like this:

Dave Hodge: So how does it feel to be a Leaf?
Peter Inhacak : YAAAH, I Try!

I like Ellis, he's like a rover, he's all over the place out there. He'd be a nice fit with Rielly, and would take some of the leadership pressure off of him. Our D would be the most mobile in the NHL with him added.

He has two years left, JVR has one. Leafs would have to give up more, a solid prospect and a pick to make the deal interesting. I doubt either team would be interested if the deal did not include the signing of the player to an acceptable contract. Ellis making $2.5 while Subban makes $9 will certainly not make Ellis warm and fuzzy about his situation there and like the Leafs have to spend some money on defensemen, Preds will have to start thinking of spending some money on forwards. I agree with you Adam a tough deal to make, but Ellis will likely be moved before his contract expires. Jossi contract expires one year after the Ellis contract, I would think they keep Subban and Jossi over Ellis.

Maybe both could be had? We have a lot of young forward assets and picks.

If you lose JVR for Ellis....JVR and needing a contract might be a better fit there. Then grab Leivo or Sosh and a first round pick....or some deal...for Manson. No salary added for the Ducks. (I'm bad with proposing deals but this should help understand my logic.)

But keep Kapanen and Rychel, Grundstrom, Andreas....the rest of the prospects.

Kapanen, Bozak, Marner
Koma, Kadri, Brown
Martin, Boyle, Rychel

Reilly, Ellis
Gardiner, Zaitsev
